windows 10 no sound

Recommended Posts

anyone else having problems with sound on Win10?? I have the latest drivers installed which are supposed to work, Windows even says the device is working properly in Device Manager, but I get no sound. If i go into sound properties to test the device it gives out an error "Failed to play sound test"

there's nothing wrong with my PC or speakers, audio works fine with the onboard sound card, I also tried disabling the onboard sound card in case it was causing a conflict but still same results, no audio.

After using the Win 10 Home PC for a little more I've noticed that YouTube videos won't playback through my KB37 Studio even though it is the default sound card. The videos do however playback through the PC's speakers which are not set to be the default. I've even taken the steps to uninstall/reinstall the KB37 drivers to see if that will fix it. I can record my guitar with the KB37 and it will playback through it but so far it looks like the browsers aren't cooperating. Hopefully a fix will surface soon.

I have the same issue, last night I Installed windows 10 and my podxt doesn't work. I get "Failed to play sound test" too. BUT when I go to cubase everything works ok within the program but when I exit there's no sound on windows. Any thoughts?

Just upgraded to Windows 10 as well. No sound through my Toneport UX2 with latest drivers. Tried installing through monkey and after that through manual download. It worked fine in Windows 8.1.

Same here, using a Toneport UX2.
I get sound in my DAW, but not on sites (YT, Soundcloud, Bandcamp etc).
When I activate my HDMI-sound I get sound from the tv though.

Edit:

Hey, I think I solved this!

Go in to sound-settings -> playback.

1. Rightclick on another device (usually you have a device on the motherboard)
2. Pick the option "Make default communication device (Not sure thats what it sais, not English windows here, but pick the one with "Communication")

I got sound after that

3. Now you can rightclick the soundcard and make it the default on both sound and communication

Hope this helps!
Please let us know if not :)

Edit2:

Found a solution! Just go to the playback devices and properties. Go the advanced tab and play with the one that worked for me was 16 bit 48000 dvd quality!

It actually has to be 16bit 48000.
I tried the 16bit 44000, with my "solution" but it did not work.
Allthough when I had 16bit 48000 I had to do the "solution" I suggested to get sound anyway. (Guess it has something to do with multiple audiodevices)

Very Good solution!! Thanks Man. I get playback through my KB37 from SoundCloud now. I set it 16 bit 48000 dvd quality also. I would imagine YouTube and others will work now also.

I had trouble with sound on one of the preview versions also. Sound through the video card's hdmi to my monitor worked fine, but nothing through an add-in pci-e soundcard, even though nothing indicated that anything was wrong. In fact, the little meter in playback devices was showing a signal! If I remember right, what fixed it was going into device manager, under 'Sound, video and game controllers' select the device that produces no sound, right click on it and disable it. Then enable it.

This might be better if it works for you because you don't have to mess around with playback quality, which should work regardless of the setting.

I did try that, did not work.

yup, setting it to "16bit 48000" works, but all other options do not, & 24bit is no longer even optional, gives an error saying the device doesn't support it...i was able to use 24bit before. i had opened a support ticket for this, hope they answer back soon so i can show them this thread if they don't know about it already & get a fix out here soon

I hope they support Win 10. I'm having some other issues like slaving Reason Adapted & Ableton Live 8 with RiffWorks at the same time. I'm trying things out still to see what I run into as I try using compatibility modes too, lol.

16 bit 48000 worked for me too.  Just one added extra  (which I might have missed 'cause I'm old :)) â€‹.  After I changed the setting and so on, I had to unplug my device and plug it back in.  I'm back in the game.  Overall, thanks to you guys this was not a bad experience!

ive read through and tried the fixes, i have a pod hd desk, and worked fine with windows 8.1,ive upgraded to 10 and should just prob be patient for a fix or patch, new driver, from what i read, most o the ppl who have had success fixing this were running the audio back into their unit, i want the audio on the computer soundcard, i will note, line 6 monkey says up to date, the computer recognizes my device,im able to change settings, still no audio but in my case, I notice no input levels for device, this being the ain concern, the laptop is a gateway with realtech audio drivers, which i disabled the mic, anyone who had no input levels but fixed, let me know otherwise ill prob have to wait for fix ,and mentioning my soundcard made me realize i prob should check there too, audio wise, everything online or on comp has audio and i can hear, this seems like an input thing, using an usb,pod edit does load, but seems to me also to not have input, some ppl mentioned their daws had input audio mine does not,and ive gone through all the steps i usual go through, also tried the 4800hz dvd thing, lots of words ,i apologize ive been working on this for 5 hours, just wanted to detail as much as i could,

could you elaborate on this fix? what settings are you talking about?

your audio settings, you can access it by right clicking the speaker icon on the lower right hand corner of your desktop & choosing "playback devices" or go to your control panel & click on sound, right click your audio device go into properties & then advanced

I did have the same problem as you (no sound with Toneport UX1) Had to change the settings to 48000hz 16-bit like you all did (but figured out myself, took about 3 hours to fix this lol).

Unfortunatly like deathdealer said my device always been supporting 24-bit before and now its not even trying to work..

You guys can except another random problem on DAWs or any other software trying to use 24bit raw audio.

Even audacity is failing on me, giving random audio port error. Everything works perfectly when my pod is unplugged. But once plugged audacity doesnt even want. The problem is already reported to them but the problem is obv on the line 6 drivers which needs to be updated.

Please fix this soon guys im in love with my toneport, I cant live without it. I'm happy this is already reported hehe.

no sound is still an issue, but on my audio settings recording tab,i have a level meter which usual shows input level,i have no signal registering now with upgrade to windows 10, i expect a patch eventually, but would reinstalling drivers using the properties compatibility settings to a previous windows version solve the no input, that is on the driver install for line 6 pod hd desk, the drivers for line 6 seem to be universal, and support most pedals,

found the solution on ux2 to get back sound go to playback devices, go to recording and right click to go to properties.then go to listen and enable listen to the device and apply; Then sound is back on windows 10 with ux2 device.Have to look for it because there was not a single refference to get sound on it. greetz elisabeth

Here's my story. I have an HD 400, upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 and nothing worked anymore. The Pod appeared in device manager as an unknown device, trying to reinstall the driver and Pod Edit didn't help, Windows told me that the program was not migrated to the newer version. In short, my Pod didn't connect to the computer at all. Then I remember that there is a compatibility mode to run programs with lower versions of Windows, tried that, set the version to Windows 8. Result: Pod got connected immediately and works just like in Windows 7 or 8. Maybe this helps somebody else facing problems with Windows 10.
