Pubba50
Hiya! Can POD HD500 patches be transferred to the HD500X? Cheers :-)
pianoguyy
500 to 500x - yes 500x to 500 - yes, but it is possible (although unlikely) to run into patches that are not workable due to dsp and other minute differences in unit. They don't need 'converted', you can just do a drag-and drop into edit.
davidb7170
Or copy the file & change the file extension. I've also done this with whole set lists between my 500X and 500 backup unit. I've only had it choke once on a 500X to 500 move, because I had one patch with just a wee too much DSP for the 500... Dave
pianoguyy
and why bother changing the file extension if you can just drag the original? Besides, that can be a multi-click process depending on how you have your computer to handle the extension name. My extensions aren't listed, which means going into the control panel to show them. davidb7170
Just more proof we are all different. I have always been in the practice of showing/knowing my file extensions. I always back up my data. I always note in my storage which set of settings & patches are currently in my 500 & 500X and my JTV 59 & 69S. It keeps me straight in what's up with what. My experience with drag & plop is that I have dropped files in the wrong place and wiped out what I didn't mean to that was there before... My preference is to explicitly know what I'm placing where. It's habit I have developed over the years - not just with this software. It's MY standard operating procedure - not everybody's.... There is no one BEST way for anything in my opinion, only what's best for yourself. Discussions of what's the best guitar, best pickup, best amp, best toothpaste, WHATEVER -- all depend on the particular person, and are all moot. They are really "what's YOUR favorite whatever and why" discussions, not what's the best. And that's cool -- love to hear others' opinions, just not put forth as the only right answer. You pick what works for you. Dave
radatats
If you want to convert patches between the various HD units and formats to include the floor and rack versions, there is a great utility program hard linked in the HD Forum - http://line6.com/support/topic/2164-pod-hd-tone-conversion-utility/ It will also batch convert a load of patches from full amp to preamp and vice versa, very handy if you have a DT or use a tube amp FX loop... ;)
