britishbob
So my wife buys me a James Tyler Variax JTV-59 for my 60th birthday (bless her) :) . So I just had to get the HD500X and data cable to go with it right? So now I am faced with infinite options and no clue how to go about getting the tones I need for my cover band. I went through the pre-sets and there were many fun patches to be found. I also checked the website, but the names of the patches are so obscure that finding the right 'Clapton' sound was a chore. Then I had an epiphany! Truly I did! I had been using a Line6 Amplifi FX100 for a while and had a bunch of pre-sets on that, and on my phone. The cool thing about the Amplifi FX100 if you are not familiar, is you can either enter the name of the song / artist and a whole bunch of options are presented. Once you grab the patch you can then see how it was configured. Amp, Cabs, Effects are all there to tweak..... or copy to your HD500X!!!! Now, I admit, this isn't the ideal solution, but it immediately got me into the ball park for a patch that I can now fine tune to the sound I am searching for. I'm not sure if the Amplifi Remote is available to everyone, but it has saved me hours of research and configuration. I have only been using the HD and Variax for a few weeks now, and its not ready for stage work yet, but I'm getting closer a lot faster than I would have had it not been for the Amplifi utility. It would be cool if Line 6 would offer a similar utility to the HD crowd.
bartnettle1
Bless your wife! That would be great but you need Amplifi to pair the remote app. But it certainly would be great for patch building. As it is I build most of my patches on the unit itself and this idea would be awesome.Check out Idea scale and see if it is there already, if not why not request it (fat chance for HD500 but maybe Helix)
spawn2031
Well I'll be a monkey's uncle... That actually does work kind of. I just installed the remote on my phone and yup I can search for tones by song name and see their settings on the phone. so yeah, that combination can certainly be used to get you into the ballpark. The only issue I am seeing right off the bat is that you might not have the exact amp/effects model that it calls for. That and also you don't have the same gear that the person creating the patch had so who knows how it will sound on your gear. Still.. certainly not a bad place to start!
leesteel
Does get you into the ballpark and saves a few steps :) :)
brue58ski
Are you using the HD edit program for your computer? With that and the Line 6 Custom Tone website, I think you'll find what you're looking for.
spawn2031
It would have except the Custom tone website is nowhere as keyword friendly. That website used to be so much more user friendly than it is now... maybe they need to move to the HX version of that too... :D

To be honest, there's more bad than good there. Some of it has to do with everyone's setup is different. But still, use HD Edit to create your patches if you aren't already. It definitely makes it easier. It did for me anyway.

I assume that he meant the auto fill that happens on the phone. Like when you type Buffy in Google Search and it fills in 'the Vampire Slayer' automatically.
