HD 500 Price Rise in wake of Helix

Just had a thought.

What if;

The Helix gains Prosumer level popularity holding its own against AxeII and KPA

In the buzz its forerunner gets a resurged demand as a cheaper alternative of the pedigree that is Helix.

Off loading your HD500X etc for a while might saturate the market and from what I see a price drop but hang on, in the wake of Helix could actually go up.

This is my foretelling. Dont undersell your HD model just yet

I am not selling because I am not buying, so it doesn't matter to me. But yes, you have a valid theory.

The other thing to consider is this ----

The Helix is not a direct replacement for the HD's because of the price range. So, other than the initial drop due to extra supply from the tech-chasers, I don't know if the price will really drop too much - UNTIL THEY RELEASE THE HELIX JR, which will be like the HD300, a version with fewer options.

See, then, with the new product being $500-800, you will see the HD500 drop.

Permanent price drops are typically the result of similar units being replaced. Like an iPhone 1 going to an iPhone 2 - both of which were initially priced the same. Or the 2015 Ford Escort and the 2016 Ford Escort.

Which is far different than a $500 unit and a $1500 unit.

The 2015 Ford Escort doesn't price drop simply because in 2016 Ford released a luxury sedan worth $45k - it would be because of the new Escort.

When I get Helix - I just know it is going to happen, but I am not pre-ordered and I will probably leave it a few months or even Firmware 1.1 depending on reviews, I will still be keeping the HD500.

First because I need a back-up rig even if the sounds are a bit compromised (or a it's raining cats and dogs outdoor stage at festival rig)

Second because Helix doesn't support Computer to Variax interactions yet, so can't be used for Workbench HD and probably not for JTV firmware upgrades

Hopefully a firmware upgrade will resolve those issues as it did for the HD series

True, or another manufacturer of modelling comes out with a standout device.

I think the Helix pretty well set any back to the drawing board!

That is a non-sense statement.

The Helix, with all of it's advancements, is still inferior to many products. It may be mass produced, compact, and affordable to those on government assistance. But it, in no way shape or form, is sending anyone in the tech industry 'back to the drawing board'.

Hmmm, a Helix Jr. for $500 to $800 would be interesting.  Maybe a bean version of the Helix...

A Helix Lite is in the making. They may not admit to it, and it would be foolish (at this stage) to tell people that you can buy one cheaper without 12 inputs and 36 outputs if they wait a couple months.  But why would they not make a product with fewer features, with the same basic operating system.

In fact, they will probably have 3. That is standard operating procedure, make 3 --- good better best. Release 'best' first to show off all of your goodies, and get people interested --- then release the more affordable units.

Do you know what else is already in the making ---

The thing that will replace the Helix.

So, yeah, anyone trying to chase technology is just wasting money on the Helix because they already have the new one in the making.

HOW DO YOU KNOW?

How do you know that a pending release is not getting reviewed?

What is it inferior to?

Perhaps my statement was whimsical.

Beg my pardon I will bare this in mind for your benefit.

Actually I just noticed your a bit of a downer. Your opinion your statements. You are definitely in anotheer camp

It's going to be hard to out-do the AXE FXII for half the money.  Not saying it's impossible but that's going to be a tuff one.  If it's any where close, which I think it will be, that will definitely hurt the competition and help Line6 gain a bunch of recognition and revenue.
