Consistent volume Fender to Vox to Roland

I started out with the AC30 but wanted to make use of other amps.  So for the Fender and Roland amps I put a compressor and/or Vintage Pre in front to get output volume similar to my earlier Vox patches.  Now I'm thinking I should lower the Vox patches where channel volume is almost always max because I'm afraid boosting the weaker amps will alter their tone.

I run direct to PA so they can compensate as long as my levels are fairly consistent patch to patch.

hey there IR2020

I'm no expert with these modelling devices but I think that you might get better results balancing your volumes by using the Mixer block rather than a compressor.

( plus you save an fx block)

The AC30 is definitely much quieter than the others so I generally put the Channel volume on 100 and then use the Mixer to bring the volume level up to match some of the louder amps ( I also do this with the Supro amp and a couple of the Fenders )

Yes, to balance the output volumes of multiple amp situations your best approach is to lower the amp/channel volume of the louder amps rather than overdive the softer amps. To compensate, increase the POD HD (not amp) master volume. Keep the POD HD Mixer levels of the louder amps at 0db.  If an additional boost on the softer amps is necessary increase the POD HD Mixer level.

Thanks Silverhead.  Pushing the mixer level up too much has sometimes led to distortion/clipping in my monitor amp but I think you're saying any such distortion is not caused by pushing the mixer as high as it will go.(its my amp not being able to handle the input signal )   I usually leave the master volume at 3 o'clock ( ~ 75% ) all the time.

PorcyTree, actually in my experience the AC 30 is one of the louder amps in the POD, at least in the non-metal category.  The Fender, Roland Jazz Chorus and new Vox Fawn models seem to have less output  ( I'm not talking about real, physcal amps, but the amp models in the POD )

you're not the only one I've seen mention this but I have always had to turn the Vox AC30 Channel Volume up to 100 to get it close to the others - weird eh?

also weird - I found the new amps ( after installing the model packs) to be louder than  the ones originally installed ( I found that the Soldanos were much louder when I installed that update too )

maybe it's just my Old knackered ears.
