Dt25 In The Studio?

I love the sound of my DT25 + HD500 in a live setting. Best tone I have ever had with a band. Does anyone use it to record in a studio setting? I've tried an SM57 on it, but so far it hasn't captured that glorious sound.

I've not recorded in an actually studio, but I have recorded it with a mic before. I liked the results. I'm not a huge fan of the SM57, but it should give OK results. I usually use a Sennheiser E609 to mic my amps, but at home I've also had good results using an MXL ribbon mic I have.

For studio recording, have you tried the HD500 itself (usb connection) with no DT25? Set the HD500 Output Mode to Studio, use the Full (not Pre) amp models, select your choice of mic/cab simulations and see if you like the results. It may not match the HD500/DT25 tone, but unless you can play that DT25 at loud volume while recording, and use a really good mic, the HD500 alone might be comparable or even preferable.

I have a bank if direct sounds from the pod that I have tried for recording. It can get quite a nice sound, no doubt about that. The DT25 just has this special quality to it. For instance, I have a JCM800 patch I use with the DT25/pod. I can't get anything close to it with the pod alone.

Update:  I tried out a Sennheiser e609 and things look promising.  If I get a chance I will post a sound clip.  So far I've just tried on my JCM800 patch, trying to keep the sound simple.  I really need to try this out at my friend's studio so I can sit in the control room with the POD and he can move the mic around in the other room.

Update!  I was playing around with the e609 miking the DT25 again, this time with a patch based on the Brit 75 amp:

I recorded this in my bathroom in the basement, using a new song idea.  Here's an excerpt of how it sounded:

I'm pretty happy with the results so far.  I've been using Pod Farm, and this beats it in terms of sound, though Pod Farm is quite versatile and easier to set up.
