HELP JTV Variax and HD500 sending magnetic pickups directly out (Splitting Mag and Variax)

Recommended Posts

Ok read the manual , looked on the line 6 forum and I am stumped!!

So what i would like to do is put the variax on acoustic guitar and run it through the hd500 and send the magnetic pickups straight out with no effect or processing from the pod? I went on the edit software and can't figure it out, totally stumped. I don't mind if I have to run the mag section through the effects and then amp off.
JTV Variax through the HD500
Mag pickups to a separate amp or through the effects then the amp

Thanks in advance

Create a dual path preset with no FX before the path split. This ensures that the two input signals are kept completely separate.

Set Input1=Variax and Input2=Variax Mags. Set your Variax Model to your desired acoustic model. You can do this manually or store it in the Hd500 preset. Path A will process your acoustic model and Path B will process your magnetic pickups. Put whatever FX processing you want in Paths A and B respectively. Put the FX Loop in Path B after any desired FX.

Route the Hd500 FX Send to whatever device/amp you want for your magnetic pickups. Plug a dummy jack in the FX Return and set the Return Level to zero (making sure none of the mag pickups signal reaches the Hd500 outputs). Route the HD500 output (which now carries only your processed acoustic tone) to your desired acoustic output device (PA/speakers).

EDIT: Forgot to mention - you need to use the VDI connection for this setup.

Great

Ok another scenerio

If wanted to turn effects on and off for the mag pickup using the foot switches would it matter which path?

Also I assume I can send the variax out via spdif and the mag out the fx loop

I want to record the acoustics sound at the highest level

Thanks in advance

Btw can I do all the paths and routing in the he software? It didn't look like I couls

No - it doesn't matter which path.

Yes - the s/pdif output will be the acoustic; the mags will be sent through FX Loop.

I'm pretty sure you can do everything with the HD500 Edit program. You can't change any s/pdif parameters there but I don't think you will need to. You can do everything else for sure.
