Does anyone know the mechanism between switching from mags to modeling?

Recommended Posts

When the Variax turns on, I hear a click noise turning on the modeling. What is the mechanism that turns on the modeling? What is that clicking noise? Are the mags completely passive when the guitar is activated or does it go through some weird circuit?

Is this the mechanism to keep the guitar passive and the mags working when there's no battery?

The sound is a relay that activates when you power up the modeling.  The mags are passive when the modeling is off.  Have to be because they work without the battery.  The Mags go through the electronics when powered up so that they can go down the VDI cable.  Since that is digital, the mags have to go through an amp and A/D converter.  So yes you are right that the relay isolates the mags when the guitar is not powered.

Are the mags still passive when using a 1/4 with a battery?
