took the plunge and bought a L2M today. Together with a good 110 ohm XLR cable.

Connected the Helix via the Line 6 link and am very dissapointed.

I must be doing something wrong.

The digital clipping is back on the mandarin and brittish amps. All the others are sounding harsh and far away from all the sounds I am hearing from other Helix users. Bought the Glenn delaunne patches and only the 5150 patch is comming a bit nearer but is still souding like a cheap transistor amp

My POD 500x and the DT25 amp sounding much better. This combination helix/l2m should at a minimum sound the same

So, what am I doing wrong?

(FW loaded again, stock patches via the headphone OK, NOK with the lm2)

Someone having an idea? I am running out....

Gotcha, that makes sense! Check the out put settings, it should auto configure a single L2 as mono, merged L/R, or at least, HD500 did. You could also try setting the Helix XLR to line level and use the L2m XLR main input, just to compare.

Definitely a different feel from the HD-DT pair! I don't have Helix yet, intend to keep the HD-DT25 pair even after Helix, since it does represent a unique combination.

However, with Helix I am primarily intending to use it in FRFR with my L2t.

An idea you could try, set up some patches using preamp only version of an amp model, and instead of a Helix cab+mic, load a cab only IR. L6link to your L2m, and manually change the L2m speaker mode to "electric guitar". This should approximate the more "amp in room" sound you had with the HD-DT pairing.

Electric Guitar:

"The overall frequency response emulates the sound of a 212 combo amp. The 10†speaker plays full range, with the horn adding only the smallest amount of sparkle."

tried the xlr direct (not the link 6), doesn't improve.

Tried the pre amps....some of them I doubt

Tried the amps ... oops...horrible

Best I get are the amp-cab and the setting PA/Reference on the L2M

Tried also the electric guitar settign on the L2M with pre-amp/amp/amp-cab

But a feeling is crawling into me...

I have the JTV-69 - Helix - L2M

I should have the same result everybody is having?

Now I'm thinking my Helix is deffective.....

Is someone having the same combination I'm having? Please share some patches which are good.....

Thanks!

pol2711,

Are you on fw v1.03? There was a bug in an earlier version where all the mics were set to 57 1" and that sounds really harsh. DId you try changing the mic and the mic distance in the patches to see if it tames down the harshness? I know I had to do it for some of the factory patches, but it made them sound much better through my l2t.

I have my Variax Std - Helix (fw v1.03) - L2T setup through L6 Link and my speaker mode set to PA and it doesn't sound harsh at all to me.

don't use the IR, only the stack amp & cab

Will try the global EQ, not used that till now.

I don't have Helix yet either, but I remember vividly just how disgusted I was with the 500X on day one...took quite a bit of tweaking (and an abundance of profanity ;) ) before I was anything close to happy with the tones I was getting. And it wasn't hours or days...I spent several weeks building patches, seeing how others went about building them, before I was comfortable with the unit. Ideal? No...but I'm happier now with my sound than I've been in years. I don't expect my Helix experince to be much different when I finally get around to dropping 1500 bucks on one...these are complex devices.

Plus, you're moving from a DT amp to FRFR...they're very different animals. You may have to spend a while, perhaps longer than you would like, experimenting with different combinations of amp models, cabs, and mics, before you hit on what works for you. And it won't always be the "obvious" choices for any one particular tone. All the options that these devices offer can be both a blessing and a curse.

Also load 1.4.2, and make sure you reset the presets. There was a bug that had the SM57 on every preset, and that apparently sounded very harsh..

I'm testing out a new rig myself. I have a Centerpoint stereo Space Station, which is awesome by itself. But it's not powerful enough to play with the whole band. So I picked up a 500 watt Behringer subwoofer, and I'm crossing over 170hz and will see if it can work. The space station is incredible for giving you stereo out of a single point.
