Monkey / El Capitan / Red Blinking Light

Recommended Posts

I'm on OSX El Capitan, and I just installed the latest Line 6 drivers.

1. My JTV is powered on, volume all the way up, and I'm connected to the USB interface. USB interface has red blinking light on the guitar side.

2. I've downloaded Line 6 Monkey both from the website, as well as from Line 6 Monkey itself--but I can't seem to get my hands on version 1.71, which says it has support for El Capitan. The filename of what I download says it's 1.71, but when I click install, it's 1.70, and when I run it post-install, it says it's 1.70 and needs an update.

3. So Workbench HD doesn't recognize that I have a guitar plugged in at all.

Thoughts?

You also need a guitar cable plugged into the 1/4 inch jack. Then you will have a green light on the guitar side of the USB/VDI cable.

Not sure about version 1.70/1.71 deal.

 Thanks, CipherHost--

I do have the guitar cable plugged into the 1/4 inch jack--that's also how I power the guitar, using the Line 6 XPS-AB box, which sends power through the Planet Waves instrument cable.

This is the same setup I've used in the past, specifically on other versions of OSX, where I was able to use the Monkey and Workbench software successfully.

1- Line 6 Monkey apps should be up on your screen.

2- Put in a fully charged JTV battery in the battery compartment of the JTV.

3- Connect the USB/RJ45 Interface device between the VDI connector on the JTV and the JTV to computer interface.

4- Take a headphone adapter or a short 1/4-inch TRS cable and plug it into the 1/4-inch jack.

5- You should hear a relay click and see both LED's on the interface turn green.

6- On Monkey, click on "Change Device" to refresh the GUI and reinitialize the line.

7- Proceed with update procedures.

If there is still a connection problem then it may be a hang up somewhere. Make use of the Line 6 support

ticketing system in your Line 6 accounts. There is a version of Monkey (v1.71) in the Downloads section of

the Support area on the site, that should be up to date and El Capitan compatible.

So, just to confirm--as in the three years I've had the JTV I've never used the battery and everything has functioned properly--are you saying that there has been a change and that powering my JTV using the Line 6 XPS-AB box via the 1/4-inch jack is no longer sufficient for using it with the USB interface, even if it is sufficient for powering the JTV otherwise?

Also, could you provide a link to Monkey 1.71, as all the links I've found both in English and other language versions of the site download a .dmg claiming to be 1.71, but when I open the installer, it says it's 1.70, and then it installs 1.70. Perhaps there's another link I'm missing.

For Product, select "All",... for Software, select Line 6 Monkey,... for OS, select "All OS,

click on "Go".  It should be version1.71, second on the download list, and is El Capitan compatible.

It looks like something is off then. If I download based on this link, at the location you described: http://line6.com/getrelease?rid=6457

It downloads "Line 6 Monkey 1.71.dmg" -- which, when expanded shows Line 6 Monkey.pkg, and when that file is executed, the second screen, "Read Me" says it installs Line 6 Monkey 1.70. And then it installs 1.70, which, when run, says it needs to be upgraded to 1.71.

one thing I found out when connecting was that I was using an orange cat4 cable, I was getting a green light. Had input jack it, usb in, cat4 in and Workbench HD wouldn't recognize it. Didnt realize it until 10 minuets later when I read the cord. I have a ton of ethernet cables so, I got and CAT5 and it worked flawlessly
