Hi. I bought a Line 6 Pod Pro HD X used. Got it today. Plugged it in, it powered up fine. Plugged a guitar in. Nothing (using headphones). Cranked all the knobs. Ran through all the presets.

I know my headphones and my guitar and my cable work.

I read the manual but it isn't really addressing whatever the problem here could be.

Do I NEED this connected to a computer just to play?

Sorry if this sounds really noob, I am just kinda confused because it seems very basic and I can't find an answer (most of the topics here are really specific technical stuff). I'm hoping for a "lens cap" reason I'm just overlooking and would appreciate any help.

(Volume on guitar is up. I hear some buzz in phones when I turn Pod Pro master past 50%)

Thanks!

You do not need to be connected to the computer.

First thing I would verify is that the guitar signal is reaching the POD input properly. To do this, make sure your guitar is plugged into the Guitar Input on the POD HD ProX. Then engage the Tuner by holding down the Tap Tempo switch. Does the tuner recognize the guitar input? If not the guitar signal is not being recognized by the POD. If you are 100% certain that you have ruled out the guitar or its cable then there is a problem with the HD ProX device. Return/replace it if you can.

If the tuner is responding properly the next thing I would check is the preset Inputs. Keep using headphones on the HD ProX to listen for the sound. There are two logical inputs that correspond to the device's physical inputs. If your guitar is connected to the Guitar Input then make sure that Guitar is selected as either Input 1 or Input 2 in the preset.

Thanks for the responses.

I bought this used on Reverb, the guy said it was mint. It PHYSICALLY looks very clean. I just can't get anything from it.

Even in tuner mode, using multiple guitars, nothing appears on the display. I'm guessing SOMETHING would since that seems to be how you tune it, so I am ruling out faulty headphone jack and just gonna assume the input is blown.

Disappointing to say the least I wanted to rock out! I appreciate the quick replies here it's been very helpful-- hopefully I'll be able to contribute myself once I get a working unit!

Yes, a firmware reinstall (probably update if the device hasn't been used recently) would be a good idea before returning it.

But if the tuner display is not responding to the guitar there's a problem at the input stage, not the outputs or headphone volume.

I don't have a hd500 anymore so I could be wide of the mark here but, is it worth doing a pedal calibration? I mean is it possible the hd is seeing it as fully open?

You could also try plugging a mic in to the xlr input and see if you get anything out of it that way

As silverhead posted earlier you may have to check how your inputs are set up to try the mic

Turns out there's a menu option to select the input, as the front guitar input apparently needs to be activated.

So, the hardware works.

First impressions are I'd like this unit 100% more if it had 80% fewer features.

You just described the firehawk fx

Great unit , less features , easy editing , less tweaking, more playing, same sound

It is not exclusively a volume pedal. It is an expression pedal that will control anything it is assigned to control. So, no, doing a calibration would do nothing.
