I have a Spider IV HD150, I want to use the Line Out/Phone directly to my DAW to record. Do I need to disconnect the speaker outputs running to the cabinet before I do this, or is it OK to just connect the Line Out when I want to record? I understand that it will mute the cab speakers with the line out plugged in, that is fine, just don't want to damage anything in the head by leaving the speaker connected and I cannot find anything that says for sure it is OK.

There's no reason to disconnect the speakers when you use the direct out. It won't hurt anything to leave them connected.

Leaves you standing in the station

So, is it safe to record directly out of a Spider IV 150 head with out being plugged into a cabinet?  I am plan on recording directly from my Spider IV 150 this week and would like to avoid lugging my 412 if it is not necessary.  Please advise.

Yes you can do that, but make sure you do not run the amp with no output plugged in - plug into the headphone output before turning on the amp.  Running it with no load could damage the amp circuits.
