andreventer
Hi, is it normal for the HD500x to hum like crazy when the guitar is unplugged but with the lead still in the device? (tested with three different leads, so no bad lead) When I unplug the lead on the POD side, the hum disappears. Tested with only a pair of headphones connected to it and no output leads going to external amps or mixers or usb. Could it perhaps be the lead acting as an antenna picking up interference? The tone or buzz however don't change when moving the lead, but does drop in volume when touching the ground part of the lead, but still audible. andreventer
I guess part of it is because the unit is not grounded in any ways?
cruisinon2
As long as it's not humming abnormally when you are plugged in, who cares? ;)
silverhead
Humming in that situation is not unusual at all.
pfsmith0
+1 silverhead. Yes, your cable is acting as an antenna.
andreventer
Thanks, was bit worried that unit is faulty.

andreventer
I am going to take a wild guess and say that this is your first time playing? First time disconnecting the guitar before turning of this unit, hence the panic  More of an acoustic person entering the world of electric. pianoguyy
Ok, so not a new player. Just a new player. Yeah, dude, all of the electric gizmos do this. And in the case of fx units, if you have any sort of distortion in the chain, it will amplify the hum.
