johnnygtar
Will there be any new versions or upgrades available for POD Farm? I have the Platinum 2.5. Thanks!
BillBee
Who knows Dude? I was thinking an HD version may come out but now the Helix is here too. I would be surprised if something is not in the works for PF. Though to be honest since the HD landed on my desk, PF is getting rather dusty (or should I say the toneports are). fflbrgst
The competition has stepped up to the plate (Amplitube notably) in providing better sound. The question becomes is Line 6 going to stay in the game (of amp sims) or not ....
BillBee
Man, I really think they will. With all the new models they have it seems like just finding a way to frontend them. Toneport HD, Virtual Helix? There is a market and L6 is pretty sharp on that end.
silverhead
It's an interesting question and I think the answer represents a strategic decision by Line 6 regarding their product portfolio. Line 6 is primarily an embedded systems designer. They produce hardware and firmware products that are aimed at live play more than studio work except as audio interface devices. These embedded systems operate in an environment that does not involve a consumer-oriented operating system like Windows or Mac. Products like Pod Farm and Mobile Pod are a step outside their sweet spot. These products require integration with commercial operating systems. Arguably, their mainstream products do as well in terms of USB drivers for audio interface, firmware updates and editor functions, but all of that is just control information and data streaming - it does not involve porting their DSP algorithms into the less controlled world of consumer hardware and commercial OS. I suspect that is much more difficult. As has been pointed out, products like Amplitube are already focused exclusively on the broad consumer market of software applications running on a commercial OS. Presumably a software company that considers this their primary product and market can do it better than a company like Line 6 whose primary products are embedded systems, and who ventures outside that world as a secondary concern. Does Line 6 want to compete with these companies head-on? That's their dilemma I think. Then again, we have just seen Line 6 release Mobile Pod 2.0, so is Helix Farm 1.0 on the horizon? Only Line 6 knows and they won't be saying until and unless they are nearly ready to release it.
FlyingSquirrel
I used my original version of POD Farm up until I got my Mac+Pro Tools, and I have all of my presets from my old XT Live copied into the POD Farm Library. Now that I have the HD500X, I'd like to be able to work similarly, only plugging the HD in when I need to use the expression pedal in particular presets. Otherwise, I just prefer to use the Farm for recording and the HD for gigs.
rockit99
More to the point - will they ever release an interface that's bigger than 800 x 600 and is so dark that you need a miners lamp to view the text on the screen ... (ok the last bit is a bit extreme)
