We need Variax insurance

Recommended Posts

What's your probleem? You feel Line6 needs to take care of your insurance needs?

Why would they? It's not their problem if you drop it or have it stolen is it?

Just go get an insurance yourself.

I did.

Or how about if the guitar just randomly starts spazzing out? I mean, I'm pretty sure most of us take care of our guitar.

I always put mine in the bag it came with even when putting it on my guitar rack so it both doesn't collect dirt and so it's safe in a bag.

I be safe with the guitar and how I use it. I make sure I never accidentally hit it on something or drop it.

Even after this, I get problems, like the model selector freaking out on me every once a month.

OK, isn't that covered by the guaranty?

Sounds like malfunction so it should be.

Sure...as long as it just happens to sh*t the bed during the first year. There are certain things you buy, knowing full well that in a couple of years, they're gonna crap out on you. Cheap appliances, budget printers, universal remotes, etc etc. But a $1000 guitar shouldn't be that fragile, imho. If I'm not swinging it around my head, or setting it on fire, I should get more than 2+ years from a volume pot. I have guitars that cost half as much, with pots that have outlasted this one by decades. Yeah, yeah it's wired up to fancier stuff that a normal guitar...but nifty technology is only worth something if it's sturdy and reliable.

If I wasn't 99.97% certain that my car will stop when I get on the brakes, I'd be walking everywhere.

Yeah, it's inexcusable. If the old generation Variaxes are still around and we're having these problems with JTVs that cost twice as much, that's an absolute joke.

1k might not be gibson range, but it sure as hell is a lot of money for a guitar still.

Extended warranties for electronic products are usually offered at the retail level, by the retailer at the time of purchase. It's a very big money maker for them. Perhaps what you're asking for is already available. I live in Canada and this is common practice here. Do you know if extended warranties for JTVs are available when purchased from major U.S. online retailers like Sweetwater, Musician's Friend, etc.?

The problem I have with purchasing an extended warranty is that it's basically an admission or expectation that the product is going to fail. I think that's why they are not usually offered by the manufacturer itself (beyond the basic warranty period). And as a purchaser, I don't buy products I expect will fail.

But it's a great money maker for retailers who can prey on buyer's fears.

I realize that none of this applies to current owners of JTVs, but it may apply to new buyers.

I still think you don't need insurance though.

Well that wasn't my idea, lol. ;)

Loss/theft insurance is one thing...probably a good idea of you have significant $$ tied up in your gear. Home owner's insurance may or may not be sufficient. Depends on the policy, I suppose.

IMO product insurance only makes money for the insurance company!  No way would I ever pay for extra warranty protection on a product.  I have come out WAY head over my lifetime by never spending a nickel on extended warranties.  We all should learn to take some risk.  Insurance companies take advantage of us big time!

Be aware that most home owner's insurance does not cover musical equipment if used professionally (e.g. getting paid at a gig), even as a weekender in a cover band, mine does not cover - even though the most likely place for loss would be at my home - say in a house fire, or some such.... Insurance is a racket... A separate policy for professionally used music equipment is quite a bit more expensive than a home owner's rider for the same stuff...

No doubt. Everything is a racket. You can pay coming, or going...but pay we shall, lol. Good times! ;)

Insurance companies are like the house in Vegas.  They always win big - at the expense of their customers.  They hire the smartest math majors to make sure that this is the case. (Actuaries)  They prey on their customers' fears of having a failure.  My advice is take your chances.  Take care of your gear and it won't fail often enough to make it worth having anyone cover your potential loss.
