Hey guys,
Trying to download some custom tones from the download page for the Helix and everytime I press a download button it just puts up a grayed out page with an "X" to cancel and a couple of weird arrows. Am I just special or is this thing broken?

Thanks!

Michael

I'd try a different browser.

Sometimes this is how the Tone Gods let you know that Customtone is a fabulous waste of time...consider yourself lucky, for they have chosen to smile upon you, and intervene on your behalf. You've just been spared days to weeks of aggravation, trying to find useful tones amidst a sea of cringe-inducing awfulness. ;)

Do you have the helix software installed?

Do you have the helix software installed?

Huh?

Yes, I was goofing around...but only a little. This has nothing to with software, or a specific bunch of settings on Helix, the POD, or any other modeler in existence. I have no idea why the OP can't download anything...not the point I was trying to make. It's about the fact that there are WAY too many variables to ever expect any continuity when trying to use someone else's patches. The guitar that was used matters. The rest of the gear in the rig matters. The player matters. The room the player was sitting in when he built the patch matters. The list goes on...and it all contributes to the sound. And since the only thing everybody has in common is (in this case) Helix, and everything else changes from player to player, expecting a patch to sound the same for everybody who downloads it, is basically an appeal to magic...with predictably disappointing results. Don't waste your time.

There's no software involved in the OP's question, other than a standard web browser. He's having trouble simply downloading a tone file from the Customtone website. He's not talking about having/using the Helix editor. The editor only becomes relevant after he's successfully downloaded a Helix tone file - which is what he can't do at the moment.

This has nothing to do with MichaelHardly, the OP's, software. There is a brand new bug in Line6's website on the CustomTone download page that has the precise symptoms he described. If you hit the download arrow icon at the right side of the page, the web page greys out and you get a tiny "x" icon. This is definitely not normal behavior and not the way the CustomTone site has worked in the past, this started a few days ago and needs to be fixed. It is the same behavior on Chrome, IE, and Firefox.

You can work around it for now by clicking the linked name of the custom preset on the left of the page instead of the download arrow icon on the right side of the page; then go to the download arrow icon on the right side of this one level down page and the download will function normally. Line6 please fix this when you get a chance. Thanks!

Why is the download link (arrow) on the right side of the CustomTone page still broken? What does it take for Line6 to get out a simple fix to a web page? Please let your lone web developer out of the basement, he says he is sorry and he won't do it again.

I know this is an add on to an old thread, but this is kinda weird - I just checked this an moment ago - download arrow worked fine for me on a MacBook Pro running Firefox.

Yesterday, in another thread, a guy was having issues adding a comment to his uploaded tone.

Siverhead posted a note that there is problem with the Customtone site.

When I checked that out - everything worked fine for me using my iMac Retina and Safari.

I don't understand!

Is this a problem for Windows users only?

Could it be a bug that is only happening on the US servers and not an issue on the UK and European sites?

Just a thought.

I'm that guy and this is the thread you refer to. http://line6.com/support/topic/21282-customtone-upload-assistance-please/

I own the Helix Rack, run Win 7 and have a similar issue in Chrome, IE and Firefox. It certainly seems like a Windows issue. I have been driving myself bonkers trying to figure this out, thinking it was a problem on my end. Please fix this Line 6. Being able to share our tones and interact as a community is vital.

I am on Windows 10 and in the U.S.A. if that helps narrow things down. I get the same issue on Firefox, IE, and Chrome.

Just tried some downloads with my Win7 machine using Windows Explorer and it works perfectly.  I downloaded several tones no problem.

Interesting, I wonder if this is a Windows 10 related issue, and maybe only in the U.S.. If anyone is using Windows 10 outside of the U.S. please let us know if the download arrow on the right side of the Helix CustomTone page is working for you and with which browsers (without clicking through on the preset name which is the workaround).

I will try later with my Win10 laptop.

Thanks, I fired up an old Windows XP machine and it also gets the same greyed out tiny "x" behavior, I am doubly mystified as to why Windows 7 is working on your machine. I wonder if it has something to do with Active X or script settings in the browser?

Just tried a download from Customtone with my Windows 10 laptop.   Worked fine.  It went into the downloads folder - did not give me the option to re-direct it like my Windows 7 machine did.

The plot thickens, can't imagine why your browsers are working.  Now I am starting to suspect an issue with different ISP providers as I have tried this on several versions of Windows as well as assorted PCs and laptops, with and without antivirus software, and always get the same result, broken. Are you using the download arrow on the right side of the page with all of the presets listed without clicking through first on the preset name? Also, which browser are you using, Edge or IE (neither works for me, nor does Chrome or Firefox)? Clutching at straws here, wondering also how you are accessing CustomTone as in how are you bringing up the initial CustomTone page? I would imagine all links lead to the same CustomTone page but perhaps not.

I think I figured out what the bug with the CustomTone download link is and it has nothing to do with the OS version or browser, at least not on Windows. I have two Line6 logins, one login has products registered to it and one does not. When I login with the one that has products registered, I do not get the grey screen with the "x" and I can download normally. When I use the login without a product registered, that is when the webpage goes wonky. So.. it looks like you need to have at least one product registered not to get the weird download behavior.

Update: It seems that at least one user is still having the issue even with registered products on their login. I have to revise my testing conclusions such that the CustomTone download issue appears to be a login issue. If it is OS or browser related as well it may be limited to how the login is interacting with the OS/browser only in Windows. Will have to wait to hear back to see if any Mac users are having the same issue.
