V2 Hd Comparison Video

Recommended Posts

I do not understand the 335 with p90 in V2,  you changed it? because the 335 is with humbucking right? you're comparing a humbucking sound with p90? I would love to see you comparing the 2 and 4 strat, which is why a lot of controversy in forum.

you said in the video description that the new 335 is p90, that sounds weird, on my workbench to 335 continues with humbucking

Yeah, you're right, the 335 has still humbuckers. I mixed it up with the 175 which has now P90 pickups.

I like the strat way better now, it has more meat!

Which one is the 335 and which is the 175 (can you give us the time markers)? Is that the 335 that starts at around 2:00 with the bridge + neck humbuckers engaged in parallel?

Thanks for the video !!

Did you adjust the tone knob to sweet spot on 1.9 clips? I mean that in old version brightest tone is somewhere around 9 or 8 and LIne6 corrected this in HD versions. Basically I wonder if the brightness that I hear in new models is real?

Thanks again!

at the end the fw 2.0 seems more digital to me, and I still prefer the 1.9

if I close my eyes and hear the fw 1.9 I have still the illusion that i'm hearing the real guitar that's modeled

but if I hear the 2.0 I feel there is something wrong

You need to try 2.0 in person and not try to judge from a Youtube compressed video... The experience is almost exact opposite in person. The 2.0 models feel much more like the real guitars.

thanks for your demo!

just my opinion

I listened carefully to the latest comparative demos of the 2 latest firmwares, and to my ears the fw 1.9 sounds more natural and believable ..

in this latest video clip demo in particular it seems that the volume of the fw 1.9 is lower than fw 2.0, while in reality it is the opposite ..

therefore listening to it again I turned up the volume of the video player every time you played the Variax with the fw 1.9, say from 50 to 75 in order to obtain a volume level more or less equal between the 2 fws .. since the listening volume influences somewhat the perception of the timbre .. in this way I hear better the real differences ..

about fw 2.0, I do not like a certain resonance quite pronounced in the higher frequency spectrum of various models, it seems almost as some frequency components are out of phase .. and something in the body main frequencies are missing..

at the end the fw 2.0 seems more digital to me, and I still prefer the 1.9

if I close my eyes and hear the fw 1.9 I have still the illusion that i'm hearing the real guitar that's modeled

but if I hear the 2.0 I feel there is something wrong

You might be the only one of that opinion regarding the sounds in this video, but to each his own of course.

The great thing about the JTV is the old 1.9 firmware still works perfectly so anyone who prefers the old sound doesn't have to change a thing.

You might miss out on the 61 SG, Maple Neck Strat, Thinline Tele, and all the other guitars added in coming versions of the firmware tho - maybe you will want to give 2.0 a try and see how you like it on person...

I asked, and those that know answered.

the screenshot is apparently from an early mock up of the new workbench HD, and nothing shown was modeled or exist.

Whoa... Ok... so... what's the deal with the leaked thing on the French/German L6 sites? Were those guitars added at some point then removed? And why? Was it all just a cruel internet hoax/April Fools gag?

big difference!

many want the old acoustics back... and many enjoy the improved jtv ones... but one things for certain... they aren't the same!

as far as I know the 700 electric models and jtv 1.9 are almost the same.. and I'm not so interested in the added magnetic pups..

so I wonder if it would be or not a real quality jump to go for a jtv updated to fw 2.0..

This is also my problem with V2 although I think it's due to their choice of guitars to model being different than previous versions. They seem to be choosing brighter instruments while I prefer mellower sounding ones. I have a variax 500 and 300 and those strats and 335's sound like the SAME instruments being modeled and the JTV sounds like those instruments with improvements. Ver 2 sounds like DIFFERENT instruments and I just don't like their basic tones as much in spite of the other improvements with Ver2

Very helpful vid, thanks. All the HD models sound closer to mag pickps to me. The old models sound digital by comparison IMO - and slightly flatter and less lively, with a softer attack. Then I saw this video though.....

. Listen at 1.42 when he switches between mag pickups and models. Mags sound so much better...IMO

Hey,

I compared the new Variax software with the old (V1.9) and made a video:

This is a great software update! All models sound way better to me.

I hear very little difference between the two to be honest. In a blind test, I think it would be very difficult to pick out which is which based on those samples.

For me, I don't notice too much difference at 1:42. At 2:08-2:16, there is significantly more treble in the HD model than the magnetics. That being said, we're comparing a Tyler guitar with Tyler magnetic pickups to a Strat model so I wouldn't necessarily expect them to sound too similar. We'd really have to compare the Strat model to the original Strat guitar to see how well Line 6 has done, or otherwise.
