Place For Workbench Hd Files Until Customtone Updates?

Recommended Posts

I've downloaded the spank 2 preset from a message in this forum (thanks, Derek32999!), and I see the 89 high-gain guitars have been posted for 59 and 69 users.  Is anyone hosting a place for Workbench HD files while we wait for Customtone to feature a Variax section?

they didn't have the original variax files either..

Since the old tones don't work with the new Workbench anyway this is no great loss, but maybe now that L6 have settled on the HD format they will add this to Customtone. Maybe wishful thinking but maybe not. If it doesn't happen I am sure people will do as they did before and improvise online storage of tones, Institute of Noise/Vettaville style

Likely problem 1.

The patches stored at Institute of Noise are for pre-HD Workbench and will not work with HD, correct?

Problem 2.

I just tried to upload a .whd file to IoN, the site will not allow the file type .whd.

I changed the type to .vwm and the page said the upload was successful, a user would then have to change the file type back to .whd before using it in Workbench.

Unfortunately when searching for the patch I just uploaded  it does not show up and the most recent patch shown is from 2009

As I recall there was a notice on that page years ago or maybe I recall reading a message from Andy Z somewhere that said IoN was no longer accepting uploads,do not see the notice now - I am giving up on it but maybe someone else here will have more success uploading new tones to that page.

FWIW - User Created Variax Workbench Files are traded here:

Yep, I noticed that after the fact.  Anyone going to step up and make a place for 2013 and beyond?  ... I've already "agreed" to the Ideascale proposal.  Here's the link for anyone else who would like to see this:

Sorry- looks like the old ION Forum File sharing database does not work anymore for uploads of Variax HD Workbench user created patches Line6 really should step up and add "Tyler Variax HD" Workbench file sharing area in CustomTone. Until then - I have added a Tyler Variax HD" Workbench file sharing area at my VGuitarforums here:

EDIT: here is the link to the working file sharing area

You, sir, are a hero.

I just signed up for the V-guitar site, when my membership is approved I will try to upload some stuff.

Thank you for doing this, it will be helpful for many I am sure - and don't forget to promote uploading to the page every chance you get.

You are now a member of VGuitarforums

Despite the name, over the past 6 years, VGuitarfourms has become more of a hangout for all Guitarists who want to break out into new sonic territory - using any gear.

I'm "Elantric" over there BTW - welcome!

Hmmm, I uploaded 5 more files there late last night and they show up in my uploads list as "approved" but they do not appear for download... weird.

Also couldn't figure out how to delete a duplicate that I uploaded... removed the file and labeled it "deleted" but is there a way to remove it completely?

Let me review the SMF User Settings -

Here at my end  - I do see your most recent upload has been renamed "Deleted" - but actually contains a file named  " Eddie Cochran Bridge + Neck.whd "

Shall I delete this - or Rename it?

I pinned a permanent link on the forum to keep the fun from getting lost in a single thread.

Please update the pinned link above to the new working URL link here:

Please use this URL link to add new patches - simply hit "New Topic"  (see tab on upper right) - and post a description of your patch and add it as an attachment

You are welcome!

(not sure why someone gave the pin a negative vote though??!?! seems absurd since it only helps people and has none of my opinions... but whatev's)

While I can understand some might feel this situation is a bit like the Ford Mustang  Forum hosting a small block Chevy V8 tips and tricks message board  - at least it gets the job done and serves a useful function.

And to Line-6 - WTF - Variax and Variax Workbench User created  files have been around for 10 years now,

Why on earth is there zero support for Variax Workbench patch sharing at Customtone ?

http://line6.com/customtone/

Also I should point out that for the past 6 years, VGuitarforums has been a useful site for trading patches within dedicated message boards - where many participate to help folks make the best patch possible.

Like this:

* GR-55 User Created Guitar Patches:
http://www.vguitarfo....php?board=67.0

* VG-99 User Created Patches area
http://www.vguitarfo....php?board=35.0

1377283835_629971037_VG99_Patches1.PNG

At first it may appear Clumsy - but the working reality is that many folks enjoy reading feedback on their patches, learning how others are using them,  and make improvements.

For example I feel the last thing we need is multiple duplicate Workbench HD   patches with little communication or dialog on "Which Stevie Ray Vaughan Neck PU patch is best?"

Typically approvals occur 1 - 12 hrs after you register. All requests to join are reviewed and approved by hand - and to prevent SPAMBOTs clogging the forum,  the first three posts require entering the kaptcha text.

Its Labor day weekend in USA - so I have been on holiday past day

Jesus, so many users of the jtv, and nothing uploaded to the vg forum....Guys please put something!!

I uploaded a few, maybe 5 or 6, can't remember... If everyone here does the same we will all have lots to try. Then again, maybe this will never happen... after nearly 10 years we only have around 200 tones uploaded for the original Variax, this tells me either not many people have created anything worth sharing or people are just not interested in sharing waht they have come up with...

I plan to create and upload more after L6 resolves the HD500/Workbench issue, maybe others will too.

I joined the forum at VguitarForums to access some of the JTV workbench files.  Still nothing of that kind on CustomTone.   I've only had my JTV59 2 weeks and just about to play with Workbench.  Does anyone have whd files or tips on getting the Chime 12 string ( rick 12 ) sounding better?   I see where you can adjust Pitch, Cents and Mix in the Parallel Pitch section.

That is Workbench for the original Variax, you should be using "Workbench HD" with a JTV:

http://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=6083

As for the Chime - it depends on what you are looking for... much of Roger McGuinn's sound came from a lot of compression

Thanks, I have workbench installed already.   The title of that Vguitar forum is :  VGuitar Forums > Line-6 Variax > Tyler Variax WorkBench HD Patch Exchange

I'm just looking for an authentic ( as in George Harrison, McGuinn, ( Tom Petty? ) ) Rick 12 string sound for rhythm.   Out of the box that isn't quite what I'm hearing with the JTV59.  I think some have mentioned that the "octave up" parallel strings on the high E and B aren't audible.
