Should I record through Firehawk-->interface or with amp and mic ?

Hi guys,

 

I have the Firehawk FX, and I also have Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface which I normally use to record my vocal with a condenser mic.

 

Now a shop nearby has Sennheiser mic 50% discount. As I'm looking forward to recording my electric guitar in the future, and I heard that dynamic mic suits the job, this is a good chance to buy one.  The problem is I'm not sure if I should or need it.

 

Which way, in your opinion, is the better way to record the electric guitar between ...

 

Guitar --> Firehawk (with amp simulation) --> Audio Interface (Scarlett 2i2) --> PC

 

VS

 

Guitar --> Firehawk (for effects) --> Amp (a small tube amp, Vox AC4C1-BL) --> Mic --> Audio Interface (Scarlett 2i2) --> PC

Have you tried using Firehawk FX as the audio interface for recording your guitar? Connect it via USB directly to your computer and your DAW should recognize it. No need for your Scarlett.

 

Guitar --> Firehawk (with amp simulation) --> PC

 

You will still need your Scarlett for vocals since Firehawk has no mic input.

 

To me, the only reason to use Firehawk for FX only and mic your amp would be if you prefer that sound to the Firhawk FX amp sounds, whether direct to PC or via your Scarlett.

Hey Silverhead I had a question about this.....

 

I had my Firehawk FX going thru a Presonus Firestudio Project using the 1/4 outs left and right - one channel panned left, one panned right, two separate tracks.

 

If you just use the USB out of the firehawk FX, is there a way to get stereo in this way? Sorry if that is a dumb question

Yes. The Firehawk as an audio interface has 2 channels via usb . You can record the stereo output from Firehawk directly into your recording program.
