Any rumors about post-HD500X product?

Any news or rumors or guesses about the model following HD500X? It's now over 3 years since the launch.

I tried HD500X in the store, I own Variax and the only big issues were the small display (especially patch name is very small font when standing), no FX tails when switching preset and a bit small loop maximum length. I dont own it yet but seemed like a really nice product. Oh and the canvas was somewhat wide, smaller board at the sides would totally be possible and still have the same features and usability.

Personally I thought I'll wait a couple of months and if theres no update, ill go with this one. Really looking forward to have the presets tied to my guitar model, such a clever feature!

I heard that something called Helix would be the next generation....?

Yea that's what's I thought, but Helix is 1000 USD more than HD500X so I was kinda hoping there would be some kind of... lite... version of Helix to replace HD500X in the same price range. Purely hoping and speculating. For example, without touch screen and stuff.

But then again, they wouldn't want to shoot their own leg by doing this since no touch screen would make 1000 USD price different believable.

Maybe you're right, maybe there's no replacement model for HD500X series in sight, within that price range.

My guess is:

Until the competition comes out with something significantly better than then PODHD for about the same money, we are not going to see anything new.  The way things look right now, I doubt we'll see anything new for 2 years or more.

Personally I'm very happy with the PODHD and if nothing came out for 5 years I'd be happy.

Yeah i agree also on this one .

Doubt they will bring anything else to the market .Helix is the next step up from HD500X and simply there is no need for anything in between.

Also a lot of people out there prefers the sound of HD500X over Helix so it's kinda difficult subject to discuss to start with .

Yes better components inside and flash look of Helix makes it a desirable device but sound wise HD500X can deliver whatever you need really so ...

And for those looking for more and more and more and more i suggest a Roland GR-20 Synth.  :)

Respect!

Thank you very much for the replies, exactly what I was looking for. I'll go with the HD500X :)

Since it'quite an old product, u may get a good deal for a used unit/old stock. Give it a go!

To help u start your journey of becoming a Podigy, there're many great guides out there. But once u got the gain staging and hi/low-pass filters right, shouldn't be too difficult to find your sound.

I still "think" that we are in the wait and see phase. Digitech is long over due for a RP amp overhaul (the 360XP doesn't really count) the Zoom 5n is a step in the right direction (when they took the cue for an Ashbass mod style footswitch layout) but they still need to go a bit further. The HD is pretty much the best in that price range for new and I would not doubt that they would like to hold that slice of the market. When is Namm? bwahahahaa!!! ;)

It depends on the margins, R&D funds blah, blah, blah.

Yea... it's tricky! 3 years is a long time, though the product is still very good and updated. For me, I own a Variax, so saving the Variax models with the preset is the biggest reason for going with a Line6 product.

I'll check the used-market on this, didn't think of this at all! With a 3 years old product there might exist a really good price on some used model.

I for one hope that they do continue it for as long as they can, the HD500x is a great piece of kit. I think that the HD Pro may well be discontinued at some point soon though.

When it does come time for Line6 to pull the plug, then I hope that they replace it with something similar. The Helix is an amazing piece of equipment, but well out of the price range of a lot of people. The HD500x is a seriously well appointed piece of equipment, as well as being relatively affordable.

I'm sure that Amplifi & Firehawk have their fans, but the rear panel connectors on the floor boards aren't as well equipped as that on the HD500x.

I've already bought my unit, so i don't give a flying lollipop what they come out with next or how long this one continues to be made.

My only concern is - since this is computer related hardware, I want them to continue to support it so that I can hook it up to my next computer and the next and the next.

I'm quite happy with the HD500 but the Helix is expensive.

That made me think that I would be willing to buy an upgraded version of the HD500.

For me it would be enough to make a few improvements:

-Same kind of color footswitches that the Firehawk.
-Screen with better resolution and readability
-Improved DSP to better tracking pitch effects and synths, more room to dual amps, etc.
-Less latency (overall, but specially in pitch, synths, and so on)
- EQ as frequencies, not as percentage. A new multiband EQ, with graphic mode.
- Improved cabs, and perhaps the possibility of using IRs.
-Fixed FX Loop. (Now lost -6 dB, and it is noisy)
-Re-assignable Looper footswitch (and maybe tap tempo). I'd use it like any other FS, and not using that looper at all.
-Ability to make USB Reamp.

-S/PDIF In/Out to make digital Reamp
-Infinite Encoders with a LED for amp control potentiometers.

-Full screen editor, one that not crashes when the expression pedal is being operate (this is a really awful bug, never fixed).

Just leave the rest as it is, and you have a potential costumer here. Price it half than Helix (around 700) and you (still) have a winner with the HD series.

Slightly off topic but I bet Line6 is laughing at the ISP Theta Pro for $1295. Reviews have been anywhere from "No better than the PODHD" to "Doesn't compare to the Helix". Even the few that say it's great doesn't say it's better than the Helix.

Well of course I'm just one guy, but I've never heard of that thing, nor the company that makes it...and I'd like to think I'm at least a little bit knowledgeable about what's out there. If they intend to give anybody a run for their money, they're gonna need better brand recognition than "Who?!?"...;)
