Problem With Aftermarket Cat5 Cable Shutting Down My Hd100

My original line 6 cat5 connecting cable works fine but locking tabs break off, i've tried aftermarket Cat 5 and Cat 5e cables but they are causing both my spider valve combo and my HD100 head to loose signal completely, the amp itself stays on but no sound comes out, what is difference or problem using aftermarket cat5 cat5e cables, do i need to use Cat 6, it's definitely only the cable itself, thanks in advance for any & all help, jeff coda

Any CAT5, 5e, 6 or 7 straight-thru works fine...You might want to double check the jacks on the FBV and the amps as the pins could be oxidized...might be a bad cable...I have gotten bad ones new...make certain that you are NOT using a crossover cable...Those will not work and there is a risk of damage with those...

guru, thanks for your reply, i'll check female pins on the amp & shortboard, when i look at the connectors side by side the wire color code is the same for both, is a crossover cable not for data or is it reverse wired from connector to connector or is that i need or should it be the same color code for both connectors, the problem cables are 25ft. in length; my shorter 10ft. cables work fine and my original line 6 works fine,  thanks again for your help,

Cut the faulty plug off the original cable and connect a new one. Most computershops have a crimping tool for that, if you're lucky they will connect it for you and you'll be done for $1.

How to do it: http://www.computercablestore.com/cat5e-patch-cables1.aspx

I think your problem right now might be the length of the cable, which weakens the signal. After all the pedalboard is not a networkcard in a computer with it's own powersupply.

Ps. if it is a cross cable it's normally printed on the cable as well. As stated above you shouldn't use those.
