Variax 600 power issue...Help!

Recommended Posts

When I first got my Variax it worked on both battery and the A/B box. I recently went to use it and could not get it to work with batteries or the A/B box. Changed the batteries, still no sound. It does work fine using my POD XT live. The only thing that I've done since I got it was a firmware update. I tried reflashing and no change. I check the diodes that I've seen posted as a possible issue and they are also fine.

Is there a schematic available to better trouble shoot with?

Any suggestions?

Thanks! :)

I replaced the input jack assembly since it is cheaper than buying a new PCB(coffin). Still no analog (1/4" jack) output with battery or A/B box. Does anyone have a component test list? You know, check R2 or D5 on PCB. I've found other reference out there, but not for the variax 600.

Thanks, Frank

If your problem is with those two components mentioned, then replacing them

will not solve your problem, other items will be affected.

It should be troubleshooted by a Line6 or Line 6 authorized technician.

Otherwise you're left with getting a coffin assembly. And the A/B box should be

checked out as well, just to be certain that it's still functioning.

Dunno if you have this sorted - I would check the modular connections from the jack onto the PCB. I had intermittent loss of connectivity to Pod Hd500 via VDI, and swapped out the VDI connection from my newer (JTV) jack plate assembly which I replaced when I did my vaxplant, as I wasn't sure about the longevity of the original. So either by re-seating on the PCB, or going back to the original VDI from the 600, I have now had a problem free run for a good while.

Maybe dumb questions, but have you tried more than one TRS lead to the A/B box? Is the A/B box definitely working?
