Anyone Use The Conversion Utility?

I have attempted to download the HD conversion utility, and my laptop HP w/t Windows 8 won't let me run it. Claims it is unsafe and could harm my PC. Any hints or ideas?

I am really hoping this or something like it is available, as it will take me a long time to re-create my tones on the 500x. I currently am using an HD500.

I tried to simply change the file extension on a test tone and Windows 8 doesn't let me see the file name with the extension, it shows me a line 6 edit icon with the patch name only.

Enjoy your Labor Day all.

The HD500 presets can be loaded directly into HD500x Edit by drag/dropping the preset file from your computer folder into any preset slot in HD500x Edit. No need to change filename extensions.

Note that this works only for individual presets; you can't drag/drop setlists or bundles. For those you will need to change filenames. If you don't see the changed filenames in the HD500x Edit OPEN dialogue, change the file viewing filter in the dialogue box to 'View Files of Type: All Files".

I wouldn't waste time with the conversion utility for this purpose.  I doubt that it has been updated to convert from HD500 to HD500x because it would be wasted effort - there is no need. The HD500 presets will open in HD500x Edit without any raw data conversion required, by the steps described above.

Sorry - I hadn't checked. Thanks for the correction. Don't know why it was updated - maybe just for the name change.

here`s a guy giving us the ultimate fix for line 6 engineers` ignorance concerning the mess with the file formats and portabiity and all you can say is "Don't know why it was updated - maybe just for the name change." ?  usually the reason for updates is for to make things better, just a rough guess on my part.

i find the comments in this thread annoying and belittling. you have clearly not wasted any time with the program lately.

I do use and enjoy the conversion utility.  line6 should have come up with it themselves in the 1st place and not waited for a unpaid user to do their job.  maybe if you checked out the latest version and saw all it can do, would change your attitude, even though it is easier to drag+drop a single tone to xEdit of course.

i`m kind of hoping the author could find the time to dig into the edit software and start making it a little better too (1 version of edit for all models, which knows what the attached pod can and cannot do and convert things automatically, or a cool gui for the conversion util incorporating some of the edit functionality). if edit could for instance graphically  display mono and stereo connections between the devices "in the path a and b" other than with just a single line,  this subject which only a select few can grasp could be made so much more transparent and easier to understand...

i haven`t gotten into win8 yet (and dont intend to), but the message "is unsafe and could harm" (particularly funny from the prism edition)  is a false alarm and of the same category as "this hardware hasnt passed the ms compatibility test" - just click install anyway  (not recommended for software from dubious sources though).

if the file extensions are hidden you probably need to adjust your folder/view options (unhide file extensions), this will make pc life easier.

Woah... hang on a second, panaman. This thread is about converting HD500 files to HD500x files - nothing else. In particular, it does not say anything about the general usefulness of the conversion utility.

I did not say the conversion utility is a waste of time. In fact it is a very useful tool. I have used it many times in the past, and continue to use it when I need to convert preset files among the Pod HD, 500, and Pro. I have complimented the author of the tool, and have directed many people to the tool for their own use. I have bookmarked the utility web page and I update it every time I need to use it.

What I said was 'I wouldn't waste time with the conversion utility for this purpose'. (emphasis added here). There is simply no need to use the utility to load HD500 presets into HD500x Edit. A drag/drop will do, and in your own words '... it is easier to drag+drop a single tone to xEdit of course....'. That's all I am saying.

I expect the author updated the tool simply to include the HD500x as a visible target device for conversions from other devices such as the POD HD and the POD HD Pro. That's a useful update. But still, I think there is no need or reason to 'convert' a POD HD500 file to a POD HD500x file, other than the name change. With respect to this specific conversion, that's all the utility needs to do. Of course, if that is incorrect I hope the author will clarify here for us.

I think you need to take your blinders off and re-read the posts in this thread, recognizing that it applies only to the conversion of HD500 to HD500x. There is nothing that you should find annoying or belittling.

Actually, I tried Drag and Drop this weekend and it worked like a charm. I will add that IMHO the amp models in the 500X are much improved. I opened the stock PHd or Dr Z amp model and almost couldn't move on it sounded so nice.

I was hoping to spend the next couple of weeks working the X into the routine, but have unexpectedly been called in to action and will be using the HD 500 for a short time longer....Of course unless I have the guts to take the 500X in to battle this weekend...

Thank you all, this has been very helpful.
