Latency on optical s/pdif audio output

Hi folks,

just connected the TT to the home cinema. I opted for optical s/pdif connection.

There's a disconcerting lag on the audio.

Is this a feature of the optical audio connection?

Will it be better if I swap to an analogue connection?

Thanks for any suggestions.

- Nick.

Many consumer-grade audio devices introduce latency with their connections because of the way they process audio. They weren't really designed with real-time monitoring in mind. Even if you're syncing with video, a 10ms latency is probably not going to be noticeable, but it can be when playing guitar through a system. I've used my AMPLIFi TT's S/PDIF connection plugged directly into an audio interface, and there was no latency.
