Master Volume Is Not To Conrol

Hi,

 

i have the same problem. It´s hard to control the volume with the master volume. When i turn the volume 1 mm then its going up to the full volume and my ears nearly explode. I play my valve in my arpartment and so its hard to control the volume. I do at the moment a workaround that I use the "Channel Volume" but everytime i switch to another sound, the volume is going to maximum. The master volume is currently not to control with the knob.

 

Do you have an idea, what i can do with this knob ? Can i use any spray. Is is hard to pull the know out, that i can use contact spray ?

The Spider Valve has the power to unleash fury when turning the Master knob. This is definitely true, but it can be tamed. What I do on mine is save the channel volumes of my presets to about 3-10%. This allows me to crank the master volume up over half way without blowing my ears out or upsetting neighbors.

 

It is best to manually adjust channel volumes on all of the presets you use to prevent bursts of volume. Just take the time to go through each of them lowering the channel volume and saving the preset. If you do not save your adjustments, they will revert back to ear exploding levels when you change presets.

The amp select model knob is for me the main volume problem, as soon as in switch the knob, it seems that the pre-set of the amp model is loading the master or channel volume very hi so if you forgot to put down eider the channel volume or Master, it will unleash fury.

 

 

Is there a way to fix that problem ?

Note …. you cannot change and overwrite the 16 presets on the left hand model knob. Herein lies the problem. You need to change your presets and store them in the user banks (the channels). This is where you can lower the channel volumes to equate different presets. At this point (as Line6Drew pointed out) you can lower the channel volume and then run the Master Volume higher. However, make sure you understand, that IF you are running the Master volume high, DO NOT select any of the Amp Models via the left hand knob or you will make yourself and everyone else within proximity deaf. You may even break windows? I am sure this is a HUGE problem for the retail stores when unknowing folks try these amps out …. ouch. I never understood why Line 6 made the presets so loud to begin with? This is also why I never let anyone try my Spiders without being there to oversee what they are doing or else (as per Murphy's Law) they will crank the master and select a model on the left hand knob !~! Also, many of the stock channel presets provided by Line 6 are also very loud to begin with. This is why users need to go through the amp and average out the channel volumes of everything for comparison and also (if desired) to eek out more usable Master Volume level. However, as stated before, once you crank up that master volume, you are always in dangerous territory with the left hand model knob should it ever be activated. I think in essence this is a very bad design flaw by Line 6 on the Spiders, but it is what it is. Again, I reiterate, it can be dangerous for unknowing people to try your Spider amp without you overseeing what they are doing.

Yes thanks alot for your response, I totally agree with you by very bad design, this is a sooo simple thing to test UAT before going to production.

 

 

At least the amp sound great, I wonder if having line 6 POD pedal could make the amp more safe and usable  (more pre-set on the pedal and volume control, that way you don’t have to go as much to the amp controls)
