Need some help

I know this subject has been beaten to death but I can't seem to find a problem similar to mine. I am a closet rock star who is an absolute legend in his own mind. I am so good that I never leave the house to play. All my imaginary fans pack my spare bedroom when I start playing. Lately I have been hearing some complaints about the sound quality coming from my Guitar. Currently I go from my Helix into a Focusrite Scarlit 6I6 then into my Yamaha sub and then into my Yamaha HS7 speakers.

Needless to say the Yamaha's have some limitations. They are perfect for backing tracks but nothing beyond that. so for my own home rock utopia, what, speakers should I be using. Do I need one Atomic FRFR or,a,serious of them. What about my backing tacks and stereo music. How much is all this going to cost me? Thanks in advance for your help.

Unless you're really crankin' it, those Yammies are supposed to be really good. I use a pair of Rokit6 and was thinking like you, so I got an Alto TS210. Sounds great, but If I turn it up loud enough to get past Fletcher-Munson, it KILLS my neighbors (apartment).

So I don't know if I blew them up or what but my cleans are now distorted.

There's no reason you can't play along with backing tracks through any decent pair of headphones, studio monitors, or PA-type FRFR speakers, such as the Alto's that many of the guys around here are using. I do it all the time with a pair of 5" JBL studio monitors. Now you won't get concrete-melting volume out of them, but that's not really the point anyway. If you're not playing in a live situation, there's no need to spend big $$ on a rig capable of rattling windows in the next zip code. Excessive volume does not make you sound good...it just makes you loud.

  • 2 weeks later...

Get a couple of Alto/ Mackie/ JBL/ EV powered PA speakers of your choice.Use one to play back your tracks and the other for the HD500 guitar sound.Dedicate each one to a specific task. You will sound like a band with real sound reinforcement.Having been in high end studios most of my life I can tell you that for what you want to do studio monitors blow. And yes I have used Yamahaha/ JBL/ Mackie/ Rockit etc...they all make even mic'ed tube amps sound like crap.

YMMV/ IMHO/ Ya Da Ya Da/ Yoda Hoda/ Whoop de Dooski!!!
