Funky Alt-tuning Issue With Jtv-59

Recommended Posts

I'm having an issue where any time I set up an alt-tuning using the e-capo (as opposed to customizing it within workbench), i'm getting a double tuning as a result (kind of like a 12 string).

It's not the acoustic sound bleeding through, there are two distinct notes being played and amplified every time I pluck a string.

Anyone else having this issue? Wanted to check before I re-install the firmware and lose all the other customizations I've set up.

Thanks in advance.

Some of us JTV users are experiencing the same thing you're talking about.

This has been discussed on this thread --->   http://line6.com/support/topic/2382-variax-ghost-notes/

Read through that thread. It's being debated as to whether this is just hearing the acoustic natural notes of the strings, or if the mag pickups are bleeding through somehow, or if its resonances or sympathetic vibrations, or ???...

You should try to record it using a direct signal (no mikes), and see if it shows up on the recording. Some people have tried to record it and it doesn't show up in the recording. If it does, it's obviously not the acoustic string sound you're hearing (if you don't use mikes to record). Some of us have opened up service tickets for this problem. I'm having the same issue. Not really sure what the cause or solution is yet.

Just to give you an update on ghost notes. I spoke for the second time today with Hugo at Line 6. He has listened to recordings I have provided to him that are done directly into Garageband using a digital interface (Apogee MiC). I played in order:

1. six strings with magnetic pickups

2. six strings with piezo pickup in Standard tuning

3. six strings with piezo pickup in DADGAD

4 six strings with piezo pickup in Blues G

He acknowledged that he and his team are aware of the issue, i.e. it is REAL. He said he is meeting with his product specialist team on Thursday, where they will discuss this issue. I will reconnect with him on Friday, and see what they have discussed and maybe get some potential remedies. Cross your fingers!

Hi,

Yes, on  firmware 2.0 there are issues (well documented by Martin and others ) as noted above. I guess it works  on some guitars, but not all. Certainly not on my 89.

You can save yourself a ton of time and frustration here by just using the 1.9 software to create alternate tunings on the guitar (ie without workbench). This works fine, you just give up the 2.0 model guitars.

Here are caveats I've found  as a beginner trying to make custom tunings under 1.9  that are not in the user manual:

1) Make sure the volume is turned up high when you make the tuning.

2) after you have 'saved' the tuning according to the manual, reboot the guitar, ie pull out the 1/4" amp cord, wait 10 seconds then plug it back in before you attempt to start using the guitar. This is kind of like rebooting a pc after you've installed new software, you shouldn't have to do it, but in the old days you had to.....

Hopefully the 2.0 issues will get fixed, but until then this works OK.

  • 1 month later...

I'm having a problem getting my tuning backups to restore.  I keep getting "Failed storing tuning preset data to guitar!" error. I have different backups for different gigs and none of them will backup.  This sucks. I knew the update was going to wipe them, it told me so, but I didn't know I wouldn't be able to restore them from a backup. Otherwise I wouldn't have updated.  Anybody know how to go back to the previous firmware?
