Exact Patches. Very Different Tones

I've been using the POD HD PRO X for about 3 months now. I've build tons of patches that I LOVE. Tones are PERFECT! Today I bought a POD HD500 and was able to transfer my tones from one to the other pretty effortlessly. However the sound of all patches with high gain amps now sound very fuzzy and I cant seem to tone the awful fuzzy overdrive tones down without killing the entire sound completely. I'm not understanding how the exact patches could sound so different from one processor to another? Am I overlooking something? Shouldn't they sound almost identical? Help! Before I sell this damn thing.

Did you update the firmware so both units are at the same version? I am assuming you did, but I gotta ask.

Not sure, but I think you are technically moving patches between hardware revisions. My thought is that would be a very subtle thing. But if I read your post correctly, you have a PRO X and an HD500 (Not X). Never tried that.

I think BillBee and hurganico suggestion of double checking the global settings is definitely something to look at. Maybe Global EQ is engaged on one and not the other...Output mode is what I would check first.

I can definitely attest to certain patches sounding very different when used on different firmware versions.

But not fuzz vs no fuzz.

To truly make sure "all things are equal", you should (on both units) update firmwares and do the master resets (or whatever it is actually called).

THEN make sure all of the settings are the same.

And remember, even though the 4 units (500/X Pro/X) are primarily the same, there are some minute differences.

all the POD global settings (press and hold the VIEW button directly on the devices to see them, is the only possible way) are never transferred between 2 devices, you can only copy them manually..

so, if the input settings are set as "global" (instead of "preset"), and/or the global eq is engaged and tweaked only on one of the devices, the same patches will sound different on the 2 units..

if all the settings are equal, the 2 devices should sound absolutely identical to each other, they are digital things with the same components sharing the same software, differently than eg 2 same brand and model acoustic guitars which may sound a bit different than each other because are made with different pieces/parts of the same wood

This was it! The previous owner had the output setting to be ran through a combo amp and I'm using it directly! SOLVED! Thanks guys! :)
