DirtFarmer
Hey guys! Last night I finally got around to using a guitar amp and cab to run the Helix. Guitar into Helix with instrument cable, Helix 1/4" out set to instrument level, instrument cable into the effects return of the Jca50h amp. Using a Jetcity JCA24s+ 2x12 cab. A couple things happened. Apparently the EQ/Presence is just before the power amp section, after the effects loop. Which kind of sucks, maybe that's normal but I was unaware that it would happen. So essentially I had two sets of EQ's to use, one for the amp inside Helix and one for the power amp section. I found my best results to leave the power amp EQ at halfway, 5 out of 10 on my amp for bass mid and treble. Then set the EQ on the preamp to get my tone. But nothing felt perfect. It still felt like I needed to keep making adjustments on both EQ's. My questions - is it normal for the EQ on an amp to be just before the power section? I thought it adjusted the preamp section. - What are you guys doing for your EQ settings when using a guitar amp to power a guitar cab? - Any other pointers for going this route? Prior to this I have been using Tanoy 802's for home use, and Peavey PVX12p's for live playing.
mfalkler
I've got this same amp and have struggled with the EQ. I have read that the 20 and 100 watt JC heads have the effects loop post EQ, but the 50 watt is different for some reason. When I was plugging direct into the fx return, it was just aatter of finding the "flattest" possible EQ settings for the amp and then doing the rest of the adjustments in the helix. I love the amp, but I've found it to not be ideal for uses like this.

DirtFarmer
Just wanted to add that this issue is for Soldano Amps and circuit boards. For whatever reason they put the tone block after the effects loop. The Jetcity was designed by Soldano and uses a similar setup.
zooey
I have a CyberTwin, and presence, which is programmable per CT patch, is after the loop. PITA for integrating w other gear. Have to say though, it was my main rig for years, but I haven't used it more then a few minutes in a fair while :)
