Vetta 2 Is A Legendary Amp!

Its been 10 years now that I bought a vetta 2 with fbv and of course used the armin mods.It is still going strong (300 W strong) and is still my favourite amp.

I would like to thank all Line 6 engineers for developing such a great stabile high quality product. Respect.

Of course this forum is full of comments about vetta 2s not working anymore but that has more to do with the Line 6 support of discontinued products then with bad design decisions. Here in Europe the price is still roughly 1800 EUR from retailers. For a digital amp that is so old most often the price plummets here it is not the case. Last year it was about 1700 EUR. To me this speaks for the product. I dream that Line 6 could offer at least something comparable in the future. A POD HD500XL with a DT50Hd is just a confusing messy combination where amp emulation on the floorboard and the head emulation can be combined into a real dirty sound making digital emulation look bad.  Of course you could say that you have to know what you are doing but the Vetta 2 was allways critised as being too complex and this is the answer? no.My other issue is far more cables and power supplies ie. not as slick as the vetta2 with fbv.The decision of puting the dsp in the floorboard leads to a size compromise and dsp power limits. With a vetta architecture it was all in the head and the only limitation was the heat of the amplification units that might limit the dsp power you can use but that limit would be much higher than a HD500X. Vetta 2 was just great, unfortunately they did not manage to sell the concept since the pod and later the pod in a floorboard was the cash cow. The spider series is good I guess but once you've used a Vetta 2 you just have to ask yourself why I would go for a spider. Its like buying a bike after having a motorbike.

my 2 cents

Legendary!

  • One can hope that Line6 will wake up someday and realize what a good thing they had. Maybe who ever the MBA nitwit was that is responsible for them dropping the Vetta will be gone and good sense will return to Line 6. I know they had it once or they could not have developed the Vetta.

If a product gets to the point where it's more expensive to make and support than otherwise, what choice does a company have but to discontinue it? I don't think the Vetta ever sold great, but it seems to have done OK for a while. I do think that for the average guitarist it was more than they wanted both in terms of price and complexity. I imagine in some ways the Vetta was actually probably subsidized by sales of lower priced items throughout the years. I'm not saying it wasn't a great product. I just don't think it had enough interest to sustain it. I think that's why there hasn't been another product to fully take its place.

The one thing that is nice about the Dream Rig concept is that a person doesn't have to buy everything all at once. They can get their feet wet with buying one of the POD HDs for not too much money, and then if they decide they want more, they can buy a DT-25 or DT-50.

You are probably right Phil in every respect. I know of only one other person other that myself who has a Vetta. For him it is his only amp and although I have the JTV69, HD500 and a DT50 Head and cab, I still get real world satisfaction from playing a top notch strat into the Vetta. I understand the rocket ship technology of the Vetta has probably put many a player off but compared to the "dream rig", the Vetta is so much easier to get good workable sounds from in a much shorter amount of time. It still turns heads. Armin mod is an absolute must. What a great shame indeed. Still the world best ever amp for me.

I have no problems with a company discontinuing a product for whatever reason. That is just the way world turns and how it has to be, otherwise we'd all be beating our dinner in the head with a stick or riding horses instead of cars and aeroplanes. However there is no excuse for a company not doing whatever they can to support the products that they have produced for the folks who have invested their hard earned money in them. To fail to do that is simply irresponsible, unkind and not worthy of future business.

For example it would cost Line6 NOTHING to put service info for discontinued products on their web site. Simple and no cost involved so there simply are no valid excuses not to do it to be made. However not doing it is a clear demonstration of complete disregard for the customer. It's just that simple. Attitude is everything.

yeah if you don't count potential lawsuits from idiots with soldering guns that decide it looks easy enough...

but whatever... i think that should be left to qualified people, and have no problem at all with that.

just disagree with you.. nothing personal.

they should certainly have made parts etc available for a bit longer...

anyway...

I don't see much in the way of standing or legitimate legal grounds for anyone to sue who takes it upon themselves to take apart their own gear. Least wise none of the car makers or anyone else that I know of has had an issue with that sort of thing. Then again there was that thing with hot coffee. The judge, jury, plantif and the plantifis lawyer should all be taken out and horse whipped for that silly stunt. No better yet, whip that lawyer twice because they all deserve it.

There are three things that would make the Vetta perfect for me.

1) JTV Variax compatibility.  I just want it to do what the old Variax's could do.  I don't need the new stuff. Just the ability to select and save models from the edit program.

2) Ability to move FX loop before the amps like the X3 and HD do.

3) Ability to use both the analog and Variax inputs at the same time like the X3 and HD do.

I don't know how much of this would just be a software programming issue and how much can't be done because of physical limitations.  I do know this essentially means it would be done for free.  Maybe some Vetta owners who have programming ability (like Armin) would be willing to volunteer to do it with Line 6's help.  Maybe none of it is possible due to physical limitations.  Just saying it would be nice.

Line 6 should make a Vetta 3;there is no reason to spend so much money for axe fx and other digital products. The Vetta is old and is still kicking asses to the newest.

You got all a guitar player need, you can connect it to the computer and make your own sounds in real time by DI connection. You go on stage with 300 watt of pure power, clean sounds and amazing leads. You got top of the noch build-in effects. So where is the deal to spent 2000 bucks for a rack system? If you wanna spent so much money go for a Roadking by Mesa or other brand.I've spent 1000 euros for Vetta 2+FBV longboard+412s Vetta cabinet.best joke of my life and I don't wanna go back. You at line 6 should make a third version of this amp,it's perfect.

True story.

I have a Vetta II and a DT25 w/112 Cab.  I love them both.  I purchased my Vetta II in 2004 and I've never had an issue with it.

The greatest thing about the Vetta II is that the tones that came with it are great and it's much easier to get the sound you're looking for without needing an audio engineering degree.

When Vetta first came out, I took the amp to my warehouse with my Vox AC30, Bassman, Mesa Boogie Road King, 2 Twins and AB'd the sounds and response times of signal path.

I was blown away. Still am. Only amp i use now, sold everything off. Studio and live Engineers love it for it's flexibility and tone.

With the Variax, it is truly a brilliant combination.

It wouldn't exactly be rocket science for Line6 to reissue the Vetta as a Vetta III or whatever.

All they'd have to do is use later models DSPs and the main processor from the same sources, then port the code over. Easily done. All the other stuff they could likely still source with the same or better parts using essentially the same pinouts etc.

I think basically Line6 needs some change in management and marketing to really get anywhere. They're doing more to hold themselves back more than anything else. Their goals as reflected in their current products seem to be aimed squarely at mediocrity.
