Impulse responses not showing

Hello folks,

I've imported some IRs but when I'm in the editor and select "Impulse Response" I only get the two that came with the unit displaying.

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers

Phil

How are you importing your IRs? You may want to go to the IR tab in the Editor and try an alternate method of importing (drag & drop, use the 'Import' link). Some users who had problems importing IRs have reported success by first dragging them to the deskop and then dragging them into the Editor. The first thing I would do is make sure that my firmware and my Editor version were matched properly.

In many cases when you download IR's they're contained in .ZIP files.  You need to unpack them to regular .WAV files placed in their own directory.  If you downloaded .WAV files you need to take note of where you downloaded them to.  Then you can either drag and drop them into the Impulses tab in the Editor, or select an IR slot and choose 'Restore' then select from the .WAV files you unpacked.

Bottom line, the last used directory location is always used when you choose 'Restore' so you may have to navigate to the correct directory.  Just because you download them doesn't automatically mean they're imported.  You have to specifically choose import and to which slot it goes.

The unit shouldn't have come with IRs.  What you're probably seeing are the options for 1024 and 2048, which are just the sample rates you can choose.  Once you pick one of those and put it in your chain, you'll be able to choose the specific IRs that you loaded

Don't sweat it. The only dumb question is the one that isn't asked.

Did you get it sorted/=? Hint: 1024 IR probably sound just fine in the mix if you find yourself hitting the CPU wall.

I had the same issue today. I downloaded and unzipped some free IR's. I dragged them from my computer file into the Helix IR editor. On the Helix, I also saw those two IR files, but nothing else. So tomorrow, I'll try the 1024.

It's really hard to understand the problem you're running into, but I'm assuming after you dragged the IRs into the Impulses tab of the editor you saw the IRs listed there in the editor.

If that's the case then you have both the 1024 and 2048 versions of the IRs available in 2 of the IR slots.  The next step is to add an IR block to a patch.  When you click on the IR patch for editing it will list both 1024 and 2048.  Select either.  From there you should be able to select one of the slots where the 2 IRs are loaded.

Ok, I figured our what I was doing.  I selected the IR, chose 1024, and it went back to the IR box.  That's when I realized something was missing.  I looked down and saw the far left knob under Select IR.  So, I turned it and DUH, there they were as I spun the dial.  I guess I hadn't brushed up enough on my IR videos.  But now, it all makes sense.

YAY!

Thanks, Ron

It would be good, I think, if the impulse responses list dropped down like the pedals do in their list. Much better than the current sliding control, same goes for the mics.

Except that pedals aren't multi-level like an IR is.  A single IR that's been loaded into a slot actually contains 2 versions (1024/2048).  So if they simply listed the list of IRs, you would still need another drop down box to select which type.  Personally the method used now hasn't caused me any problems nor has it been a problem for most people.  This is the first time I've ever seen anyone have a problem with it...and there's LOTS of us using them.

^^^This!!!! And it is not just the IRs and mics, it is a problem with many of the parameters in the Helix Editor. I have been concerned with and commented about the overuse of the sliding bars since the Editor first came out. It absolutely goes against every sound UI design principle to not have a drop-down menu or a similar element for any list that exceeds a very few items. This part of the Editor design is absolutely atrocious. Scrolling through a list of a over a hundred items one at a time is user abuse. How does something like this even get out of alpha testing?

It's not that I have a problem with it at all, I just think it would be better that once you've selected 1024 or 2048 the relevant IRs appeared in a drop down list. It's easier to view when you can see more than one at a time. I can live work it as if it's.

Cheers :)

The thing is, by having the IRs selected by the knob it makes it VERY easy to scroll through the IRs to audition them for how they will work within a patch.  In fact you can have a loop playing and scroll through until you find the one that works best.  I don't think it would be that easy if you had to constantly go back to select the IRs from the list.

Side note: IMO the easiest way to audition a bunch of IRs is in pedal edit mode. Once you've the IR block and that parameter "selected", you can use the + and - footswitches to step through them. Use the expression pedal to move long distances.
