Holding down 9 and 10 does not render "reset message"

So just updated and when I restarted holding 9 and 10 it did not give me the "Will reset globals..." message and did not rebuild presets. Just booted up, I see Firmware 2.21 and helix comes on. Any thoughts from you guys?

Edit: I see the plastichorus and vintage swell so the presets appear to be there...

More...I downloaded the update and then updated my helix off line. All of my global settings were wiped clean. New amps and effects are there. But...my previous user presets, mix and feedback settings are all in place as well as my IR's.....hmmm

Do you have the Helix floor or rack unit? Just wanted to make sure, are you are pressing and holding all the way down on the middle two switches on the bottom row (if you have the Helix floor unit) before and during your startup? Don't let up on them until you see the message. If you are doing that correctly and still not seeing the "Will reset..." message I would recommend updating the firmware again. If the firmware installed properly and the Helix is not damaged the global reset option should always work. I have never seen nor even heard of this particular issue before.

It is normal for you to see your user presets and IRs from the previous version still in place after you do a firmware upgrade. You will also see the new effects/amps from the new firmware version. It is not until the global reset (FS 9&10) is executed that your old user presets and IRs get cleared. Make sure you get a successful global reset before proceeding with normal operation of the Helix or you almost certainly will have issues going forward.

I have the floor, been playing since I posted and it sounds awesome but I agree. I did update off line for whatever that's worth. I did like I have always done and as you wrote.

I agree, will update again and see what happens.

Same as before. I am trying to go from 2.12 to 2.21. Maybe I should download 2.20 first??

Another thing to try if you have not already might be to make sure you are not connected by USB while attempting the global reset.

You definitely need to download and install the 2.20 "Helix" app first! This is the version that currently matches the 2.21 firmware. The "Helix" app will install the latest Updater, Editor, and driver. It is a good idea to do your firmware upgrade with the latest version of the Updater. It sounds like you may have been using an older version of the Updater when you upgraded to the 2.21 firmware. The operation you are attempting to execute, doing a global reset, is done on the Helix and should not be impacted by what version of the Editor you have installed, however, using the latest version of the Updater should provide some additional assurance that the firmware update is completing properly. And of course ultimately you will need the 2.20 version of the Editor and the latest driver(Windows) to use with the 2.21 firmware.

So...I would start at the beginning (after hopefully having backed everything up first).

  1. Download and install the 2.20 version of the "Helix" app. This will install the latest Updater, Editor, and driver.
  2. Use the Updater to upgrade to the 2.21 firmware. Do it online through the Updater GUI if you have a robust enough connection rather than using a downloaded file offline as you did initially.
  3. Do the global reset (FS 9&10).
  4. Restore user presets and IRs
  5. Restart Helix to allow preset rebuild process (does NOT require global reset)

WoW! Just loaded 2.20 from online versus my hard drive. All good, rebuilt presets, restart holding 9 and 10 and same deal. No message, no wipe...

Not sure now if I should try 2.21 again, plain as day I need to do the 9 10 reset

Are your encoder press-in functions working?

Maybe one of the switches has gone bad, so it's not receiving the command to do the reset.

Angels are singing, That was it!

FS 9 is a little weak when doing by hand. Never really had an issue with my shoes on and I don't really want to take the time to send it back home. I should have thought of that, you sir should get a gift cert from DI. Thank you!

Haha - that's excellent.

(I mentioned encoders because I'm a Helix Rack/Control user, so the resets are done there on the rack)

Glad that got sorted - you definitely don't want oddball behavior floating about behind the curtains ...

Cheers

The first unit I purchased got stuck during an update. (Floor model)

It said to shut it off and start over so I turned it off and it got stuck in the boot screen and kept flashing back and forth between the Helix logo and the Helix rack logo and had what looked like a red battery flashing in the middle.

No reset procedure would work so I took it back and exchanged it updated and has worked fine ever since.

Weird

Glad to hear you got it figured out. When you start handing out gifts and gift certificates for this can a brother get at least partial credit for having posted this ^^^ as the first response on this topic? ;)
