Noob Question

hey guys, I've been recording with an MBox pro in Pro Tools 10 using my POD XT Live but am thinking about buying POD Farm 2.5.  2 Questions:

1.  Do I need to buy the POD GX, UX1 or UX 2 interfaces or can I just use my MBox Pro as the interface?

2.  Can you record a clean guitar track and then basically audition all the different tones in POD Farm (similar to reamping with a DI) or do you just pick the tone you want and that's the one that gets recorded, like when I'm using my POD XT Live?

thanks in advance to anyone that responds, much appreciated

Bob

1. Just make sure you get the hardware-independent Pod Farm 2.5 license. Then any interface that gets the guitar signal into your computer will do.

2. Typically, you would record the dry signal from your interface into your DAW and then use Pod Farm as a plugin for post-processing (like reamping). Of course, you can also record the processed (wet) signal, or record both. You can also use the standalone version of Pod Farm when just playing and not recording.

Some people like to hear the processed sound when recording rather than the clean sound.  As silverhead says, record both - clean on one track and processed on a 2nd track, then you can always go back, insert a new PF instance on the clean track and experiment.

POD Farm 2.5 has two parts.  There is a stand-alone part which allows you to either send the processed, or dry version, or both versions to be recorded.  There is also the plug-in part, which is best used for processing/re-amping a track which has been recorded dry.

As an aside, the stand-alone part is not available with the iLok version.
