Display light not working

Hello, everybody!  I have the POD HD500x and the display light does not work unless I press really hard on the screen but then as soon as I let it go the screen light stops working again.  Seems like there is a short or something.   I can see what amp or effects I'm using but only if my face is about 2 feet from the screen but if I'm standing up playing I can't see the screen at all.  Has anybody seen this before?  Is there a fix I can do at home to avoid having to send the unit back to Line 6 for a repair.  Any suggestions?

-Ron

Hi Ron, Sorry the brightness display knob on the back. I thought you were new with it but I see not.

Did you test the PSU or swap it out?

It seems that pressure on it connects so you might try opening the unit up(easy) and check the ribbon cables

and connections related to the pressure you use. Good luck

Hey there, the only thing I can suggest, based on the screens behavior, is that there is a bad solder joint. The HD produces a fair amount of heat and sometimes a solder joint can separate from the board. A repair shop would be the best place in lieu of taking it all apart and "trying" to find the bad spot (it is doable though if you have the experience/skills).

Guru, are you saying that the display is basically a "plug and play" type of hardware? If so, I know the replacement part only costs $35 and I am pretty handy......

Assuming that it's out of warranty already, and as long as you know your way around a soldering iron, you've got nothing to lose...
