Don't worry, you don't have to ignore me. I'm done with this forum and won't be back.

To the couple of people who were polite and gave me suggestions, I thank you.

To all the people who have had nothing but negative comments, critiqued why I would even want such a thing, critiqued the way I choose to write and use my gear, critiqued how I choose to use my time, or just took the time to make fun of a perfect stranger I can tell you this. I may not use this forum more than once every couple of years but I'm heavily involved in the music community and have been for 30 years. Virtually all of my friends are musicians and none are active on "music forums". Why?... because of nameless, faceless jackasses like you guys who have nothing better to do than troll around looking for people to make fun of. You're punks who use the internet to say things you'd never have the balls to say to someones face. Get over yourselves...

I have over 30 line six products from the POD 2.0 to the X3 Pro.

I am a guitar player not a computer programmer.

These things are increasingly difficult to use for non tekkie types and a road map in the form of a preset list would be nice.

I have three versions of POD xts and some of them have presets installed that I cannot use because I dont own the amp model.  What is that about?

The X3 manual was huge but had less information in it than my POD 2.0 manual.  It was printed in fifteen different languages and weight about five pounds.

I guess they have the time to translate useless manuals.

Why bother installing presets in the first place?

My first POD 2.0 came with an outling of the 36 factory presets.  Simple

It was easier to program my VCR than to edit any of the presets on my XTs or X3s

That is about you having to own the model packs.

Do you have the model packs in your account? Have you updated all the XTs to the latest OS? Have you run the licence manager?

If yes to all the above then you can install the model packs on your XTs.

When I am recording and I "need" a certain tone I wish I could just look at a sheet..."oh, Fender Twin with delay...go to patch 13D...etc."

Use the unit properly then.

Create your own preset, in your own setlist. When you need it, you use it.

It's a hell of a lot faster than hunting down a particular preset from a spreadsheet

The HD500 comes from the factory with 256 presets across four setlists. Those four setlists contain several repeated patches, meaning that they exist exactly the same across multiple setlists. Those setlists are nothing more than something to demo the capabilities of the unit. Feel free to erase those factory presets, then you have 512 possible patches you can call up at a moment's notice. If the unit is that difficult for you to use, maybe you should not have bought it in the first place. Telling the company to makes the unit that they need to give you a list of the factory settings is just plain silly. If you want it so much, make it yourself.

All the HD series units are designed to be a tone-hunter's heaven. You sit down with the unit for some time prior to using it, you dial in the tone you're looking for, then you call it up when you need it.

The HD500 contains 4 totally blank setlists, each capable of holding 64 individual patches. There's your 256 blank entries. Build what you want in there. Name them what you want and make them easy to find and use on demand.

And frankly, if you've been recording for 30 years and you're heavily involved in creating music, why would you be using a mid-level device rather than 1) the real thing or 2) a more powerful and realistic unit?

i ran monkey, license manager and  updated my two POD xts and my POD xt pro.  I installed the model packs on all of them (bass expansion, FX  junkie, and collector classics),  I have a newer version of an XT which has a different line 6 logo than any of my other machines. This one has several presets with an amp model I dont own (I thought I had all of them)  It is strange that I updated the software and model packs on the samee day but they have different presets.  Why would Line 6 install a preset on a unit which did not have the amp model installed?

Another wierd thing about presets.  I cannot reset the presets ot a "Complete Factory Recall" as described on page 4-12 of the manual.  It says to press the SAVE button once and scroll with the SELECT knob to a page which does not exist.  I dont  have single channel recall on any of the POD xts either.

I thought if I upgraded the software on all of my units to the same version the presetw would change and become identical.  This did not happen.  I have three different sets of factory presets on these things.

Thanks for your interest.

I don't think different logo machines are different in any way - except the earlier machines have to be updated via MIDI if the are v1.01. Once updated USB can be used as normal. The XT and XT Pro have slightly different versions (3.01 vs 3.02 I think).

You don't mention the Metal Shop, so maybe you don't have all the expansions. Also, when installing firmware you will be asked whether or not you want to keep the current presets. Depending on what you select at this stage may result in different results. Also I cannot remember if the XT necessarily has the same presets as the XT Pro. Were all these devices bought new? There may be all sorts of odd presets if bought second hand.

Also are you reading the latest pdf manual? The printed manual has some errors due to changes in the firmware over time (like pages that don't exist).

I just bought an HD500 and It would be helpful to have a place to start with a list of the factory presets and suggested uses such as,   preset such and such is similar to Santana or ZZ Top Etc. Instead of trial and error.

Go to custom tone , download the tones of the artists you like, and adjust to your equipment.
