bc05
What I dont undestand is - When I record with Helix Hardware it lays down a stereo track of Helix processed tone HOWEVER When I track the DI via USB 7 it is a MONO track Then I re amp this using Helix Native with the same patch with NO stereo effects and it sounds different?! If I track with the Helix and TURN OFF all processing it still tracks as a STEREO DI. What is the best way to do what im trying to do which is replicate the PRECISE tone of the hardware via DI? Im thinking set both USB7 AND 8 to be DI and then track to a stereo track for Helix native to process? Would that duplicate the tone? Also in theory woouldn't the INPUT level be perfect set at 0 if I track this way IE: the guitar is hitting Helix Native at the same level it does in the Hardware unit, thereby duplicating the tone EXACTLY? Sorry for my confusion but Id like this cleared up. Im tracking via VDI with my Variax JTV89 mostly if that helps...

Hi bc05, Something very similar to this question cropped up in another Helix related thread recently.http://line6.com/support/topic/27158-helix-reamp-question/ I will make the same comments here in the hope of clarifying part of the issue for you. Here we go - Unless you are one of the very few people who own and use a stereo guitar (not your JTV89) then what you are dealing with is intrinsically a mono instrument that sends out a mono signal. Of course you could set both USB channels 7 and 8 to guitar and record that into your DAW. Not that that would do any good - both signals are identical mono takes! AFAIK, your hardware Helix is set up to deliver a stereo signal from USB 1 & 2. Although, I guess you could mess with it so that it puts out 2 mono signals - there is a whole heap of ways to configure your outputs. It's only when your DI (dry) track is further processed by plug-ins (Helix Native, etc.) in your DAW, or sent back into Helix that the stereo magic happens. IIRC, (I'm not in the studio right now, so I can't verify) Helix Native has the option for taking a Mono to Stereo signal for output. It may be worth taking a little time to watch this Line 6 demo of how to re-amp with Helix.https://youtu.be/Vf3i18zOgG0 Note that the DI guitar on USB 7 is MONO until it is re-processed via Helix which makes it STEREO. Hope this helps to clear up the mono/stereo confusion. Or maybe not!
