Guitar Input setting, especially decay

Hi All,

For guitar input setting, I will set it like this:

Input gate: on (to prevent unnecessary noise/sound)

Threshold: -48 (same as default)

Decay: 750ms

Guitar In-Z: (not understand what is it about)

For decay setting, something, I would like to have more sustain (e.g using overdrive and distortion), so I make it 750ms. Does it suppose to use it as this way?

Thanks

Shiloh

Hi Shiloh,

For some insight about noise gates you should check out this video from Ben Vesco (Malhavok) which should help.

Sustain really doesn't come from the gate but from everything in the signal chain after it, especially overdrive into a high gain amp. For clean sustain you need a compressor into a clean amp.

Regarding Guitar In-Z, higher setting e.g. 1M is usually for hot pick-ups like hum-buckers and the lower setting for single coils. It's your choice but Auto is a safe bet.

Here's a quote from Digital Igloo about Auto setting on Guitar In-Z

" If the distortion pedal is the first block on Path 1, Helix can automatically set its Guitar Input impedance circuit to match. Just set Global Settings > Ins/Outs > Guitar In Impedance to "Auto.""

Hope this helps.
