Popping When Changing Channels

There could be a number of reasons for the popping, and it has been discussed in the original forums. Here's a link searching those forums for it:

Unfortunately this popping is a known issue to Line 6.  It is a major defect, and it is why I returned my SV Mark II 112 combo.  In my case, I often change patches during songs which means you would hear a loud pop.  This is ridiculous.  Line 6's solution to people is to turn you patch volumes up past 12 o'clock to lessen the pop.  However, this means my master volume was just way too touchy going from no volume to ear-bleeding volume.  Line 6 really should fix this problem, but Spider Valve sales are way down  so maybe they are not putting any resources to making SV improvements/fixes.  Guitar Center told me they are not going to carry them anymore.  My local Sam Ash stopped carrying them, and my other local Atlanta dealer (Ken Stanton) no longer carries SV amps.  They also said their sales on Spider IV amps are way down... that the Fender Mustang amps are far out-selling Spiders.  Although I love the SV concept and its flexibility, I have moved on from Line 6.  Just too many problems, too much tinkering and too much tweaking required with their products.  All that said, I should say that I bought a SV 112 Mark I version when they first came out... about 2007.  I still have it and I have never had any problems with it, and it does not have the popping issue like the Mark II version.  However, I just can't take anymore of the digital fizzy sound on the overdrive/distortion models.  My wife says it just sounds awful compared to my other amps.

Yes, i had same issue with SV212 MK2,......as stated the cure to the annoying `popping` was to increase the inividual patch levels to say 50% minimum,......and again as stated, renders the master volume almost unusable at becomes VERY sensitive. Had the SV2 now a while and to be honest had lots of issues with it, mostly known ones, so im only posting this to back up whats been said as i too am annoyed Line 6 have `ditched` this amp with regards to fault fixing. Its been a pain in the backside tbh to actually use and feel somewhat let down by the lack of interest in Line 6 with this amp.

HI people.

New member here.

Been playing well over 30 years now.

Just ordered a SV 112 MKII and expect it to arrive tomorrow.

That's why I joined, to get some information as needed.

I've heard of this "popping" issue before so I'm basically expecting it to happen.  But, I won't be using this amp for gigging just for home practice and writing.

I've got a B52 half stack for a live and loud straight forward tube amp.

B52 seems to be dead in the water as far as guitar amps go, but I LOVE my AT-100.  It's got an excellent tube tone with clear sparkly cleans and ultra saturated gain for the heavy work.  They are great amps and the price was great too, but due to low price it never built a sound reputation as it wasn't taken seriously by the greater guitar world as being worthy enough to compete with the Marshalls and Mesa's.  Frankly, I'm not a Marshall fan, but I do love me some Boogies.

I decided to get the Spider valve because of it's an actual tube amp, pre and power.  I've played these amps in Guitar Center and they're cool for practicing and song writing giving lots of effects and sounds to keep me inspired.

I hope I made the right choice.

The amp I really wanted is the Bogner Alchemist which is mostly a tube map with some Line 6 effects, namely reverbs and delay.

The SV seems more a modeling/effects amp that is powered by tubes.

But, for whatever strange reason Bogner no longer sells the Alchemist, even though it's received excellent reviews.

I wonder if Line 6 has something to do with that amp leaving the market.  Maybe too much competition for the SV and DT amps.

The DT amps seem very similar in design and intent with the Alchemist.

Anyway, my SV 112 should be here tomorrow and testing begins tomorrow night.  :)
