jelliott78
Any advice with changing strings on Variax Shuriken? Brand, size?
psarkissian
D'Addario XL110's are the factory set,... 10-46 gauge. Always good to change strings one at a time, so as to maintain string tension.
EvodNomis
Also, you don't really need any extra string in the tuner with the locking tuners. The first time I changed the strings, I was in the mindset of having to wind a few turns around the tuner to make sure it was solid. You don't need to do this at all - just put enough string through the tuner hole, lock it down and tune it up - maybe half a wind or a single wind around the tuner is plenty. I might be wrong, but it seems like the physics of not having extra winds around the tuner makes it easier to dial in the normal string stretch. spikey
Someone stated that using 52's on top got rid of the "plink". I'm not sure what a "Plink" is, but FYI.... Maybe some others use 10-52's ?
psarkissian
Maybe remove plink, there are many reasons for that. More than likely, minimize it. When changing gauges, the tension changes and the set-up is altered. Have the set-up checked and adjusted when changing gauges.
Smashcraaft
Maybe some others use 10-52's ? I am very happy with 10-52 Elixir Optiweb. No plink, nor plonk.
