Firehawk top end

I recently bought a Firehawk after using an X3 Live for a while, but I have found that so many patches have a biting top end which distorts on the G and B strings. I can fiddle around and make it workable but don’t understand why I should have to do that. I am using a JTV Variax, Roadhouse Strat and a 335 and they are all the same. I am using the amp out setting into a Fender Champion 100 with the amp tones set flat.

Am I doing something basically wrong here or is the unit faulty, it was bought second hand. I never had a problem with the X3.

Try running the FH through a sound system rather than your amp. See if this addresses the issue. I run mine through FRFR powered PA speakers. They have a basic treble/bass Ed and the slightest tweak makes a big difference. Modellers work best through sound systems not amps. Going through an amp doubles up on some of the tone modelling.

Emble1, try adding a parametric EQ with your high shelf set for -3.5 dB at 4.5 KHz. I sometimes also use a low shelf set for -3 dB at 70 Hz, but I run into a full range monitor (JBL EON 612). Like Helix, you’ll get the best results by ignoring the factory presets and building your own. If you are running into a regular guitar amp, the best way is to go into the effects return, since that usually bypasses the amp’s preamp and tone stacks. You might want to just run a preamp model in Firehawk in that case. If you don’t have an effects return, you should probably just use Firehawk for its effects and bypass the amp modeling altogether. It is really designed for Full Range Flat Response monitoring. There is a learning curve but it’s well worth it!
