If menus stayed open after selection we wouldnt have to reach for mouse

In the Helix editor, Once a snapshot is selected, or once a model is selected, the menu for that model or snapshot closes. If it stayed open until the user closed it, it would be much quicker and easier for everyone to cycle through. If it stayed open, all you would have to do is hit the down arrow and enter on your keyboard.

As it is now, once you select a snapshot number, the menu closes and you must grab the mouse and click on the snapshot menu bar to re-open it,in order to select another snapshot. Same thing with the models. Once you select vermin distortion the menu closes and needs to be clicked on again to re- open, to select say....stupor OD.

Again, if those menus stayed open until the user were READY to close it, a gentlemen could cycle through with much less effort. I try to avoid the mouse as much as possible, and not only that, by the menu closing each time a model is selected, it continually adds an extra 2 to 3 steps in the process of auditioning new models.

Any reason things are the way they are? Am i missing a simple work around?  Is it reasonable to expect a change here? This would make navigating the editor more like the unit itself. Thanks!

You could use the footswitches, not the editor, to quickly and easily cycle through the snapshots. In Global Settings, set the display to 8 Snapshots. Or, set the Up/Down footswitches to progress through snapshots rather than banks or presets. See manual page 55. This will let you do what you want with a footstomp rather than a mouse click.

I don't know if this is an issue for the iOS version of the Helix editor, but it is for the Windows version. When Windows applications provide scroll bars, clicking the space ahead of or after the 'slider' should advance the screen (or list menu) by 1 screen's information; this is a common user shortcut convention. This is true in nearly every Windows application (e.g., try it with your Internet browser whether it be IE, Chrome, Firefox, etc.), unless the developers are not relying on the Windows OS to manage elements of the GUI (which I'm somewhat suspecting to be the case with the Helix editor for Windows).

The Windows Helix editor however, doesn't conform to this convention. For example, when I'm looking at all the presets in a set list, there's far more entries than can appear on in the available display space than can be displayed.

Granted, I can 'grab hold' of the vertical menu list slider and drag it to where I want to go. However, after a couple decades of Windows applications' behavior (as both a user and an applications developer), I find it frustrating that I can't click above or below the slider to advance to the next screen of information. When I click above the Setlist 'slider', it takes me to the top of the preset menu items list (vice versa when I click below the 'slider'). I've done that in frustration so many times with the Helix editor that if I received $0.05 per click, I could easily purchased a grande Flat White from Starbucks by now (LOL!).

Don't get me wrong. . . I do appreciate having an external PC app for editing! I just wish it conformed to the typical user interface conventions like other Windows applications. Thanks!  :)

Well, on the new version of the editor (it will be called "HX Edit"), the block do behave more like what's being described here. It's similar to Native - you can display the model as a text list or you can see all the icons for the different models at once. So if you click on a distortion block, for example, you can see all the available distortion blocks right there. The snapshots are still a pulldown menu, but, to me, that's still OK. Basically, if you want to know what the new editor will look like, look at Helix Native. Although, both are being refined, still.

Hmmmm. I hope im following you when i say this because this is something i wanted to mention initially. I'm on Win7 by the way but.....One thing i LOVE about navigating Helix is that when going thru IRs or a setlist, its a 1 click step to any point i want to get to. For example, from IR 001 to IR 128 is one single click. Setlist 01A to 32D, or anywhere in between, one click.  No scrolling, dragging, or anything, just one click. All menus in Helix editor share this same consistency, and that's something i hope never changes.

Now, my folders in Windows not the case...continually clicking or it needs to be dragged. I think here is where we share the same frustration, but why is our process exactly opposite? Its in this that makes me wonder if im confusing what you are saying....or why im getting it and you're not...or why im experiencing this in Windows.

Also as a side note: I really hope that Helix adds scroll support. Could be my computer, but i don't have that function, and it seems somewhat essential, no?

Hey nice!! Not only has this problem been completely solved with 2.30, but it actually removed a step making it even simpler yet. You dont even have to hit enter. Just cycle thru the models with the up & down arrows on your keyboard. Thanks L6. This is much appreciated.

Something else, you can cycle through snapshots by holding down Ctrl and pressing the snapshot numbers across the top. ie Ctrl+3 for Snapshot 3.

Doesn't seem to work with the 10-key part of the keyboard.

The HX Edit pilots guide has all the keyboard shortcuts navigated. You can get to the Pilots Guide quickly by opening the Help Menu in HX Edit.

Thanks man. Would not have found that one out for a while.

The new HX Edit Rocks!!! Not only does it work great with all the new improvements, it looks great on a large 27" Hi Res Monitor and works with Windows' Title Bar Maximize and Restore Screen buttons!

Almost makes it seem to sound better :)

Another little find ive run into is that holding down shift+ the up/down arrows will cycle through values in much larger increments, often groups of 10. Full marks to Line 6 for this editor!
