What program do I download to use my Line 6 UX1 to record myself on my computer? Line 6 has made it so difficult to the point where I've downloaded tons of they're softwares only to find I have to pay for most, and the free ones all basically do the same thing, and do not give you the ability to record yourself. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I bought my ux1 second hand, and was told the original owner got a certain software with it, but didn't have the install disc anymore. And I'm told by all the good softwares like podfarm 2.5 that I have to buy all of the different softwares to get anything good

Is it a red Toneport or a black POD Studio?

In a nutshell Toneport comes with a free hardware enabled  POD Farm Standard standalone license and POD Studio comes with a free hardware enabled POD Farm 2 Standard standalone and plug-in license (There are a few exceptions).  If you do not know the difference between standalone and plug-in that is not important at this point.

Sometimes a new purchase comes with a free license for a light version of Cubase (a DAW), which is from the company Steinberg, but that is not your current situation.

So you will need to decide what DAW to use, and there are many to choose from, most of which have a common core set of functions and features.  Seeing as it sounds like you are new to digital recording there may be a bit of a learning curve so I would suggest reading the UX1 manual and watch some tutorials.
I currently use Reaper as my main DAW, great bang for your buck, and they have an active forum. You can try the demo for free. Audacity is a free, but if you plan on doing anything beyond simply recordings for fun I would not waste my time on it.

Do you have the red and black toneport ux1 or the all black podstudio ux1? They both come with different things.

Once you've registered your device at line6.com,and registered the computer that you are using the ux1 with, via the line6 device manager, log in to your account at line6.com on the computer and you should find a link for downloading cubase.

Could you tell me how I would go about Downloading and using these for free? Everywhere it says I have to pay for it

You most be trying to download from the store, no need for that.

Run the Line6 Monkey to install the drivers and POD farm. It should also prompt you to install POD Farm, you do not need to pay for the standard version. Whether you are entitled to PF1 or PF2 depends on your device.

You can also go to the downloads page and select from the dropdown menus.

Not sure if you get  Cubase if the UX is 2nd hand, but definitely worth a try. If not you could also call Line6 or open a support ticket to see if they can help you get  Cubase.

Yeah Everytime I try to run monkey it won't let me login. Can't connect to server or something. Really weird

Mine is a second hand unit, and I have the option to download cubase. Either the previous owner didn't use the download, or it can be downloaded and used as long as you have the device registered.

That's cool!!

Download directly from the downloads page. There is a driver installer file where you do not need Monkey. You can also dl PF from there.

But you will need to run the License Manager while signed in. Some firewalls and anti-virus apps don't like Monkey but I think you'll be ok with License Manager.

Mac or PC?

Cool I'll try that out when I get home. Tried monkey again and seems to be working somewhat now. I'll give an update later!
