When We Get Firmware Update?

There are a lot of questions that get asked that aren't really customer service issues, so in that sense the forums are useful. If people have actual problems with gear, the way to receive attention is to use the support ticket system.

If I ask L6 "Do you intend to provide at least sime of the fixes that have been requested multiple times through multiple firmware updates that you have neglected so far?" or a more general "Do you still have a team ACTIVELY WORKING on updates to the Pod HD to either correct issues or provide new models?" do you believe I would get an honest answer, or rhetoric?

As I said before. I bought my Pod for what it was at the time, not for future additions. I almost pulled the trigger on a JTV as well, but since I had so many issues with my original Variax with the piezo saddles going bad and the model knob failing, I realized that in a few years when the electronics fail in the new JTVs all I will have is an overpriced Gibson/PRS clone. A very pretty one, but nonetheless...

It's funny to be referred to as a "volunteer". I guess, technically, that's the correct term. None of the people who have the Expert User title are paid, and some of us have been involved in beta testing (other people have too). But I liked and used Line 6 stuff well before any of that happened. It was actually my positive interaction with Line 6 customer service that convinced my to do what I do here. I wouldn't do it if I didn't think it was worth my time.

Hey Phil, it was not my intention to offend anyone. What I meant to say is, what if you and\or the majority of the "volunteers" decide to stop answering questions for personal reasons? Archive-only part two? Keep up the good work!

..... But are still under gag orders so even if they know they can't say. I like Line6 gear for their price/performance ratio, but they sure miss the mark on customer service and even product engineering.....

There are no gag orders. We can (and do) say what we want - including saying (for the hundredth time) that there are no gag orders. Of course, saying it repeatedly doesn't make anyone believe it if they'd rather not. The reason I am not often critical of Line 6 is that, as a user, I generally find their products to be excellent value, and their customer service to be admirable. There are exceptions - and when I think being publically critical is helpful then I do/will criticize.

I also know that some users have had bad customer service experiences, and they are right to criticize. I (and other Expert Users) frequently work with Line 6 behind the scenes to do what we can to make sure these service deficiencies (the actually legitimate complaints - some aren't) are resolved.

By gag order I mean NDA, not just posting opinions. I know L6 Experts can speak their mind.

I think the terminology is probably off here....

we do have an NDA (non-disclosure agreement)

that would prevent us from telling you certain FACTS that we may come across...

we do not however have restraint placed on our opinions etc.

But the volunteers are dyed in the wool users.

Not really true. If you've been around the forums long enough I think you would have seen several occasions where "Experts" have been very critical and openly expressed their opinions of what they felt may have been shortcomings of  some of the Line6 products.

There are no gag orders.

Except of course for the CDA./ NDA

Thanks to stumblinman, TheRealZap and Triryche for clarifying my mis-speak. I was referring to expressing our personal opinions. We are indeed under NDA re: non-public product information, and that is a specific gag order.

This is possible with the Double Preset upgrade from R3FX. No need to wait for something that may never come. R3FX also does footswitch mods to upgrade the footswitches to pro grade switches. Jim does great work!!!

http://r3fx.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=81

I cannot find any description of what that unit does.  Quite a number of the other Line 6 related items on R3FX's web site are similarly undocumented.  Seems like an odd marketing plan.  Is the reader "..just supposed to know"?

I believe that switch simply plugs into the expression pedal jack and toggles between the heel and toe positions. People have been doing this sort of thing since the DL4 came out.

Back to the topic at hand- i too would like to see Line 6 "fix" a few things I still think are broken, even if there are some here that think its a feature and intended to be that way.

Beating a long dead horse again,  the dry out on the back of the HD-Pro, only works if you use their "digital" flagship guitar's input in old style analog input mode.

No DA conversions to this output port because it was made to be a analog in to output port only. Yea, even with a new Tyler Variax hooked to it,  this dry port wont work unless the input to it is analog. Really.... I tried for hours trying to get something out of this port signal wise, unable to believe that they did this...

What blows me away is that Line 6 takes the time, money and trouble to create a flagship pre-amp to work with their flagship guitar, and then put a port on it the digital guitar connection cant use.

Totally boggles the mind. Well, at least my mind (but then not everyone owns a Variax huh)...

And so others say it was again, an intentional and a nice feature for use with an analog guitar. Cant argue with that logic at all either cause thats a valid answer.

Right up there with with the possibility of using tube theory technics on the space shuttle... Oh Yes it could work (shakes head as to why you would even consider it)...

But what ever you think it is, good or bad, the fact is the HD Pro's dry out port is currently a useless boat anchor using their own flagship guitar (Variax) in it's otherwise feature rich digital mode.

I call it an oversight, and it needs fixing because I could use that dry output with my Variax feeding the preamp in its intended digital mode.

Is this fixable via a firmware update? So far it has not been and Im afraid it cant be because of the hardware limitations on the current model.

So now in retrospect I guess my gripe is really the "what were they thinking at the time" thing, and maybe it might help them to design a better one next time... At least that is my hope...

Not that they need anyones input here or anywhere... But there is hope.... And so I expect that soon it will be fixed, via the HD-Pro version 2...  ;)

if you want new features this is not the place to ask

See that in itself is just plain "wrong headed" in my opinion... Why shouldn't Line 6 use the forums as a guide for what their users (and the people that pay their salaries) want in the product?

Wisdom may not be in effect here, however I think that they do indeed look in without any ones knowledge.  I sure hope thats the case, and I think (and that only matters to me) it would be a huge mistake on their part to ignore their own user forum.  Plus, its "free" advice from their own user base, give or take away what you will.... Cant beat that price.... I refuse to "buy into" the idea or believe that they are that stupid... There are too many reasons on the plus side for them to use us "as needed". That propaganda (and thats what it was) i think was hatched here only to prevent our expectations of them having to take the time to answer direct questions from us in a timely fashion (even if I think thats also a good idea),  as they may not always have the time or patience to deal with buttheads like me... B) . But, I can not believe for one second they don't look in once in a while.... Its ridiculous to think otherwise and bad business practice to boot.

R3FX does have a lot of youtube vids on how their products work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0sLDW1yvGU

You mean like... wait for it.... "here" ???

I understand where you are going, but OTOH what you suggest is that they rummage thru all the request tickets just to find the ones they need to send back RMA's for broken equipment?

How productive is that tone man? See it works both ways. Use the forum. Its here. Its now... The users (us) all use it all the time to voice our concerns and list our wants and wishes...

To me, not using this forum to improve your product line (just so you can in turn in another ticket), is borderline insanity... The information is all here. We read through it all the time. Toneman Im going out on a limb here, but Im guessing the Line 6 guys probably know English well enough and can sort topics just like we can and do.  :P

And you have ability to separate them. Grats... Now Don't you think Line 6 would be able to do this here as well?

If you need to send in a ticket for repairs, of course that is a different issue,  because they in turn need to send you back information on how to do this.

But if we are discussing new features, how to do things, improve on what we know and wants and needs, this forum is the best place to read it.

Of course this place is the best place to request new features and improve old ones. Wants and future desires for all to add input to.

And a company that does not read what their buyers are saying about their product line wont last very long. Thats why I "know" Line 6 reads their own forums...

And that is why they spent the time and trouble to update it recently too....

A combination of both should be good. Use this forum , respond to posts and ask posters to submit feature requests.; Just like they do at the Revalver forum. I think it's very nice when the DSP programmer/designer responds himself like Michael Ljunggren at the Peavey Forum. I was just at the Peavey Forum and just found out that they're deep into Beta Testing of the latest revavler.  They've been working on that forever, when it comes out, I'm sure it will be a game changer. I'm not suggesting that the programmers at line6 do the same, but it would be nice to have some communication from somebody from the company, then again, they're running a successful company and the POD HD isn't bad at all for the money. Actually the POD HD today still offer the best bang for the buck (300,400,500).

The competition is fierce though and line 6 I'm sure are working on updates to release at the right time. considering Eleven Racks are sold at the same price as the HD PRO and you get a full featured DAW (Pro Tools version 11) with the ELEVEN Plugin, it's hard to believe that Line6 has nothing in the pipeline as far as updates. Eleven offers what line 6 offer with POD Farm except POD Farm hasn't been updated to HD but ELeven Plugin is identical to Eleven Rack hardware with easy re-ampling and many of the things that are being requested here such as a full featured 4 bands EQ with the ability to set each band to whatever filter type you choose and adjust Q to you hearts content!

I got Revalver III and I reckon it sounds the best out of all the Amp Sims I have tried or demo'ed G'Rig, Amplitude2,

A'tude is easiest to set up and I like it for that. Revalver is CPU heavier but does do something right in the higher frequencies.

I hope the next incarnation it is a game changer and affordable but it would have to be up there with Fractal and KPA for me to buy it.

The Last update for the HD500 was October 16, 2012 (added Soldano amps and a couple Line 6 amps) before that was April 4, 2012 (adding plexis and bass amp). Feb 14 was the one before that and Nov 11 of 2011 was the one before that.  May 12, 2011 was a signifigant update with added amps also.

At this point, I highly doubt there will be any further updates.  There have been no new products besides the PA speakers and no updates to anything in the last year except for the recent variax update.

I was hoping for add ons and was willing to pay for them, along with many other people.

Don't hold your breath.

Most likely scenario is a new product at the end of this year.  Line 6 have been very quiet at the last few NAMM shows except for the PA stuff.

The new product (in a few years, the pod HD will still get updates I believe) might be something like the Kemper Profiler amp. This is not a joke. If line 6 doesn't do it, I don't know who else would!

I think the same...I am considering the idea of selling the Pod HD Pro to buy one Kemper Amp....

Me too honestly, even if I'd really like that of course.

I also don't expect anything revolutionary, stellar or comparable to Kemper and other high end products from a new Line 6 unit, especially considering the different price ranges, but I'll wait for it anyway hoping to be disproved when it comes out :)

there will certainly be more updates coming... they've never released a new model and NOT released updates... the hd500x is a new model... and they've said that any hd500x updates will also apply to the other HD pods.

I think it's interesting that, when convenient, the X is either "not a new model, just an update", or "a new model".
