Hey everyone,

I tried doing some research but couldn't find anyone with a similar issue.

Both myself and other guitar player have Spider Valve MKII's. We love the amps and they are convenient for what we do.

In our rehearsal space, the amps work pretty much flawlessly. Its a small room so we never really have to turn them up past 2 but they are plenty loud. We play usually 1-2 times a week and 2-3 hours each night.

We've played a few shows recently and at all the shows both amps had intermittent issues. My amp specifically started randomly switching to "manual" mode about half way through at 45 minute set. The other guitarist amps seemed to lose the presets completely and had to be turned off and on a few times for the presets to show up.

The ONLY difference between the live settings vs our rehearsal space is the location and that we turned the amps to about 3 or 4.

Has anyone experienced this issue when driving the amps at a louder volume? Do you think it could be a electrical voltage issue?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

-Joe

I haven’t experienced this specific issue, but I do know that these amps are very finicky when it comes to low voltage. Since both amps experienced issues, the venue’s voltage is where I would start. Many on the previous board advocated the mandatory use of a power conditioner whenever the SV MKII’s were used to play out.

I'm ordering a power conditioner now and I'll update this post once I've tested it out at a gig. tx for the response!

Hey Zmanchu,

I see you replied to my post regarding `Loss of distortion`,........your amp switching to `manual` is probably the one issue I havn`t had (yet!),,but your friends losing patches could be related, as you say, to what I posted regarding the physical position of the amp selector ( as I posted,,,just leave it pointing straight up 12 oclock ish and not completely anti-clockwise pointing at the clean setting)

To be honest this amp has given me quite a few headaches since I purchased it and i have never been 100% confident with it regarding live use,...........in fact only the other night I was gigging and the amp was `booming` and then lost ALL sound,, eeek,.......a quick power down and power up brought it back to life,..seriously,,wtf!!

There has been some suggestions that the V2.00 update doesn`t do the amp any favours but I don't know for sure.

please reply and let me know if the power conditioner helps

  thanks and good luck!!

Couldn't it be a heat related problem? The MK1 has the problem of getting in a "reset loop" when it's getting hot. Maybe the MK2 has a similar problem but the symptoms are a bit different?

Does it occur after some time or also immediately after you switch it on?

In my band I am using a HD100 MK1 and the other guitarist is using a MK2. I remember he had to reset his amp some time ago too because his presets suddenly went berzerk, but I think it only happened once. His MK2 is modified though (HD100 converted to 50watt, Mercury Magnetics transformers, other tubes and an SV Pre).
