Hd500x And Ex-1

I'm using HD500X with Line6 EX-1 pedal and I have this problem. Internal pedal of HD500X works without any problem, but external EX-1 pedal doesn't have that perfect "tracking" and I get 100% value when I'm let's say in 85% if compared to internal pedal and I get 0% value when I'm in 10% if compared to internal pedal. (I hope I explain it so it's possible to understand, I'm not native speaker).

 

I don't see way how to calibrate external pedal in same way as internal pedal.

 

Can anyone confirm this behaviour of EX-1 pedal so I know there isn't any problem with my HD500X or EX-1?

There is no settable calibration of the external expression pedal on the HD500 or 500X, or any of the L6 units that use external pedals..

 

I just purchased the Mission Engineering EP1-L6 expression pedal, so am just getting into messing with it. It is basically a pedal-operated 10kOhm potentiometer. it has a rack & pinion type mechanical gear connection like my old volume or wah pedals from years ago.

 

If yours is similar, you may be able to go heel down (open up the action of the pedal) and disengage the pedal ratchet a little from the rotating pot shaft, and rotate it a few gear teeth positions one way or the other so that it's travel is slightly one way or the other from where it's at now. It might help you get it into the range you want.

Yes, the same problem here with my new Line6 EX-1, connected to the new HD500X (using/trying the original and several other cables). The (HD-)unit doesn't react the first 10%, starting from the (EX-1-)"heel-postion" ... and stops reacting when the EX-1 reaches about 90% ("toe-position"). So, there  is "only" (about) 80% usable control.

 

I've no problem calibrating the build-in pedal ... ! But what about calibrating an external pedal (especially the Line6 EX-1)? Any ideas?

For whatever reason, the HD line just reacts this way to the EX-1 expression pedal. There's a "dead zone" at the top of the pedal sweep. It doesn't really bother me all that much, but what you're experiencing is normal. The only way to workaround would be to modify the pot in the external pedal in some way.

I've just added 22k ohm resistor to EX-1 (connected 2 input jack wires in it) and EX-1 now works better. There is still dead zone, but not that big, so I like the result. I might try to add second resistor to it (don't know how much ohms should it have) and try to make dead zone even better.

For the electrical circuit challenge, could you post how you added the resistor? This is a major drawback to the pedal IMHO and personally, I would consider it a design flaw (especially when the on board pedal doesn't have the same issue).

 

Unfortunately, the external pedal issues extend way beyond this, e.g. not being usable when HD500 edit is open without rebooting/replugging/praying etc.

Supposedly there are two versions of this pedal.  Version 1 which didn't work well and had a 20k ohm pot and version 2 which now has a 10k ohm pot.  This works better supposedly.  Can you new purchasers cofirm that it works well now?

Old thread, but certainly helpful.

 

I just bought one of these for my HD500X and noticed it does indeed have a dead zone to it. Kind of sucks because the throw on this thing is already shorter than the onboard one. It does have a 10K pot. I tried adding 22K and it worked better, but still some dead zone. The closest I could get was 20K, which almost perfect.
