New Hd Firmware

This is a waste of a firmware update....do real people even still work for Line 6? Do they know about IdeaScale (hahahaha, right?)? You have 75% of your vocal users looking for EQ updates and new amps, and we get better functionality with over-priced Full Range PA speakers.......awesome.

Maybe the one guy who works on POD HD these days has taken a lot of vacation this year. I have to confess, since buying the HD500 when it first came out, I've been extremely disapointed with the time it has been taking Line 6 to do things on it. I guess they figure there's more money in other areas of the business. It'd be nice to see a release of a model pack people could pay for, simultaneously with the major requests on Ideascale that should have been in the original release (values on EQs anyone). They could fix some issues, while also generating new income from the model packs. Maybe 2016.

just to save some people some digging:

POD HD500 Flash Memory v2.2 RELEASE NOTES

POD HD500 Flash Memory v2.2 is a FREE firmware update for all POD HD500 users.  Before updating your firmware it is strongly recommended that you connect to the POD HD500 Edit application and back up any presets you may wish to keep so you may install the latest factory presets as part of the firmware update.

What’s New?

                • Significant improvement to the integration of StageSource speakers and DT amplifiers connected via L6 LINK

                                • Master knob on the POD now attenuates the level sent to connected L6 LINK devices*

                                • POD output mode defaults to Studio/Direct when connecting StageSource speakers

                                • StageSource speakers default to Reference (FRFR) mode**

                • Preset switching optimizations

                                • StageSource speakers no longer mute upon preset switching unless the speaker mode differs

                                • Output of the Looper (in the post position) no longer mutes upon preset switching

                • Pressing the Reverse switch while using the Looper's Overdub feature no longer causes audible artifacts

                • General bug fixes and optimizations

* Previous firmware versions had no attenuation at the output to L6 LINK connected devices - for the same results simply turn the Master knob to maximum

** Note that any previously saved presets will retain any StageSource speaker modes that were set at the time the POD presets were saved

Known Issues

                • When mixing both StageSource speakers and DT amplifiers over L6 LINK, DT amps must be connected before any StageSource speakers for audio to pass through to all L6 LINK connected devices

                • Variax Workbench HD will not connect via POD HD - use the VDI/USB interface included with your JTV as a workaround

Well, David with Line 6 support told me yesterday that they were looking in to the "low volume" glitch and that it would be fixed in a future firmware upgrade. Since this issue has been around for about two years and was still a problem on 2.10, I wasn't very optimistic about seeing a fix any time soon. But they sure surprised me! Thank You Line 6.

I am surprised it does not also cover the Pod HD? My Pod HD has been working great so maybe this would not help it anyways.

The POD HD has no L6 Link output, and this update targets L6 Link functionality almost exclusively. The HD pro/x specific fixes also do not apply to the Desktop device.

Part of the cost one pays when they buy the AxeFx is the cost of continuing targeted support. Fractal has a very small product line, so they can focus on updates. It's also expected to be more frequent for an item in that price range.

A $500 piece of kit from a company with a large and varied product line won't get the same level of attention.

Yeah, I'd like more attention paid to my HD500, but I'm not upset that incremental updates are few and far between or that they don't address every individual desire.

well I applied the update with no issues on my 500.  So now the master volume knob on the 500 works with my DT.  Only it doesn't match the master on the DT, it only regulates the POD output level.  Prior to the update the POD output stayed at 100% and the only way to lower volume was with the amp channel volume or the DT Master.  Now we can crank the DT master for the power section tubes without blowing the windows out by just lowering the POD master instead of playing with the amp channel.

I tried it tonight and it seems to be the case.  It is going to take a lot more play time to work with but essentially I should never have to use LVM again.

And as for anything else, I don't give a crap.  I see tons of very high priced analog pedals that only do one or two things and will NEVER be updated, changed, factory reset, and nobody bitches about it.  When you buy a new computer you don't expect the manufacturer to give you new features and capabilities for free.  Microsoft doesn't give you a new OS for free (usually).  My car company doesn't call me up with free upgrades for the hell of it.  Even if Line 6 did give new amps and stuff, there would still be complainers that it wasn't enough or just what they wanted.

As for me, thanks guys, good job.   :D

Come on Line 6 - more models please!

Check The Ideas page - lots of good amp suggestions there.

I'm just wondering where Line 6 got half of the amps they modelled.

Because my Marshall 800, Vox AC 30 & Fender Deluxe blows all of those amps away.

Where's the 5150, 5E3 Tweed Deluxe, 63 6G6-B Bassman, etc.

its almost comical to see someone that owns all those great amps, cry for digital models...

just saying....

Yeah I guess it does.

I use those amps in the studio and when my full band does live shows but I use the HD 500 for Duo gigs so I don't have to haul the amps on gigs where they won't fit anyway.

Line 6 has a basic good product there that they just need better sources to model.

There's just too many good amps out there to be wasting time on pawn shop stuff like the Gibtone 185 & Super O.

If I only have 16 amps to choose from I'd rather they would be real work horses like the ones I've mentioned.

I mean come on the Marshall 800 they modelled sounds like crap.

I've had dozens of 800s come through my studio over the past 20 years (on top of the one I own) and none of them sounds as lollipop as the one in the HD 500.

I can't get it to sound good no matter what.

It's so bad that I bought a Tech 21 Marshall pedal and run it through the HD 500 effects loop.

At least it sounds like a Marshall.

The secret to the JCM800 model, revolves around getting the master volume (in the deep edit parameters) right.

I don't use it much, but i do remember figuring that out.

the actual amp models are up over 20 now, i wanna say 23-24.

the one model i want more than any other is a JC-120. closest to that now is the SLO clean. (IMO)

Line 6 has a lot more resources than Fractal, I would imagine.....also, Line 6 has made a conscious choice to focus outside their bread and butter and if they continue, they'll be a much smaller company selling boutique PA equipment to rich kids, venues, and touring bands....They could at least make a FRFR amplification option that is on par price-wise with the HD stuff....I don't understand the thought process that people are going to a get a "budget" modeler and then spend 3-4 times as much on amplification. If I had the money to buy StageSource stuff, I'd probably go with QSC anyways, as have   A LOT of other people. I'm glad they fixed a two year old problem for some of you......finally. Maybe someday they'll actually look at IdeaScale.

L6 has more overall resources in general. They also haven't got a core product line - they're distributed. The POD is no longer their "bread and butter." They do amplifiers, live sound reinforcement, effects, microphones, etc. No one line is getting more attention than another - the new product is getting the attention. This is to protect them in case one of their product lines fails.

They're a larger company, and they focus on what's next. Like many other similar companies they tend to ignore the older product in favor of the newer product. They produce a product that provides the same experience regardless of the user or environment.

Fractal, on the other hand, has a single product. They're the boutique operation. They provide a single, very high end, guitar processing solution that is designed for a very particular customer base. Their entire existence surrounds that single product and it's customers. They produce a product that fits exactly what the individual customer is seeking. It's quite the opposite of what L6 does.

Apples and Oranges.

expensive apples and cheap apples, dude.....just cause Fractal only does one thing, doesn't give L6 an excuse to slack off. To me, these firmware updates are akin to service packs for an operating system...yeah, you don't get a whole new OS for free (sometimes), but you do get continual updates until either the hardware can't go any further, or the OS is completely obsolete....so unless they are coming out with a whole new series in the next month or so, they should probably see what people are asking from the current product and provide it. And, if they are coming out with something new, say so! You don't have to say a whole bunch, but at least say "Hey everybody, we put all of our effort into a new modeling series, so there won't be any more big updates for the HD series other than bug fixes." How lollipoping hard is that?

And watch your current revenue drop to zero during your capital-intensive development stage? Not a chance. Suicide by honesty.

That's why you keep updating your products you already have out until the new one is ready...this isn't some dude in his bedroom programming all night.....they should be able to work on new things and keep the current line-up fresh. then when the new one is ready, say so.

So where do you allocate the manpower? The new product or the old one? What's the ratio of dedication? How much do you spend before you write off the old one and completely concentrate on the new? That team working on updating the old one? They could be getting your new product to the market faster. Which path has the greatest payoff?

For L6's business model this would not work. You put your talent on the new gear. If it happens to be backwards compatible then it's an added benefit, but if not who cares. It's a legacy product. It's not generating any revenue for you, so why make it a cost center?

One of the advertised selling points for the "NEW POD HD 500" was that this new product would keep evolving and that the user would be able to download new amps and features - in other words the product would not become obsolete like earlier models.

Well where's the new amp models?

I would even be open to paying for new amp models.

That seems like a reasonable way to go.

That way a customer could pay for the models they want and not have memory space taken up with stuff they're not ever going to use.

Medal guys have no use for a Roland JC 120 or a Fender Deluxe and the mellow rock guys don't need all the hi-gain stuff.

good advice radatats.. ;)

to be even more on the safe side I did also a global settings reset, as we had to do with the previous firmwares..

1 - flashing

2 - global reset

3 - pedal calibration

as written here:

http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects/pod/pod-hd/after-pod-hd500x500-flashre-flashupdate-man-r160

I would add:

0 - backup set lists/presets

loads of metal bands in the 80's used a JC120... including metallica....

what are you talking about?

i do understand what you mean... just think that was a poor example.

my mavericks update to the pro x was flawless and fast.

sounds like you had a gremlin.... or i had incredible luck (which never really happens....)

Just in case mac users see this...On my OSX Mavericks box the update completed and when I restarted the pedal the Mac went to a kernel panic.
