Jtv89f Modelling Problem With High E- And B-string

Recommended Posts

Bought the JTV89F on Friday and did some testing in the rehearshal room and at home over weekend.

The guitar with magnetic PUs plays and works perfect. The fretboard is very nice to play. String height was a liitle too high for me. But the overall setting, including the Tremolo of the guitar was very good as it was shipped. I just needed to adapt the octave tuning on the G-string.

Now there is a serious problem I have discovered with the modelling:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The B- and High E-string has pretty much lower volume than the other strings. And the high E-string has a very noticeable octave-artefact. This is very much noticable on clean amps and Acoustic models.

As I own already a JTV59 and a JTV69 for more than 1 1/2 years, I know how it should/can sound, so I fairly can say, that there is something wrong.

Initially a thought it is a software problem, so I reinstalled the FW 1.9 again, but this doesn't helped.

Then I assumed a mechanical problem with string and/or mounting of the strings. So I changed the B- and High E-strings with new ones. This also doesn't change anything.

I am now at a point where I assume that something is wrong with the piezo PUs and I am close to send it back to the guitar shop.

Any thoughts / ideas ????

if you can switch out the piezo on the the b and e, you can confirm a piezo fault

89F, ergo it's graphtech. I'm not sure if the piezos are exposed like the other models, if Graphtech's floyd is anything like their ghost system.

Well,

to close this Thread:

YEP, for the modelling, Line6 have a GraphTech-Tremolo with piezo PUs on the JTV89F (although that does not really help me in any way).

I will return the JTV89F to the guitar shop I have bought it. I have ordered a new one already and will test it directly at the shop.

Okay,

tested a new JTV89F directly in the guitar center: all piezo PUs on the GraphTech-Tremolo worked fine - no volume difference and no octave-artefact as on the first one.

The service guy in the guitar center confirmed that something was wrong with the piezo PUs on the B and High E-string. I do not want to judge it any further. Everybody can make up his own mind.

The setup of both guitars were very well adjusted: Tremolo, octave tuning, etc. On both guitars the string height was too high for my taste. No "High E-string falling from the fretboard problem" as on my JTV69 (changed finally the fretboard). (Open) Chords should not pressed too heavy with fingers, because the Jumbo frets have a light tendency to go into sharp tunes. But on my JTV59 this was initially pretty much more a problem to me.

JTV89F Fretboard is killer and very nice and fast to play. Magnetic PU sound is excellent and clearly more Hi-Gain than the JTV59. It fits pretty well to some of the 80s songs I am playing with my Retro Cover Rock Band. Will play very likely mainly the magnetic PUs, the Acoustic models and some alternative tunings.

I think this JTV89F is a keeper for me.

It's occurring as a pair, on fret stops, not open strings,... mechanical damping at the string locks at the headstock? Check and make sure it's snug, not over tightened. Had a loose Low-E & A pair the other day, made sure he plate was lined up right then torque it snug. Check the "set-up" or take it to a guitar tech to check the set-up.
