M13 Update Problem (please Help!)

Hi everyone,

I am having a problem with my m13. I cant seem to update it. I have read through almost EVERY thread but either 1, i dont understand as i am very new to these MIDI stuff etc. or 2, the solution doesnt work.

My problem is that after i go through the long upgrading, the m13 still remains in the FLASH UPDATE mode and nothing happens. When i turn it off and on, it still remains in ver 1.04.

The steps that i go through:

1) Downloaded MIDI-OX

2) MIDI port routing (i have tried USB2.0-MIDI -> MIDIOUT2, and also triend USB2.0-MIDI -> USB2.0-MIDI, both doesnt work)

3) SynEx (change delay to 101, i have tried the original 60milsec as well but both didnt work)

4) I have tried swapping the MIDI inputs in->in out->out, in->out out->in. Both didnt work

5) I basically tried everything i can think of :(

Here is a picture for reference:

Can someone please help me, i have tried troubleshooting for 2 days straight and i am getting quite frustrated.

Thanks in advance!

Personally, I never got MIDI OX to work. I'd try using Bome's Send SX: http://www.bome.com/products/sendsx/downloads

Download and install the 1.22 version.

The other thing is that you really only need one MIDI cable to do the update. One going from the out of the adapter to the in of the M13. What USB to MIDI adapter are you using?

That looks like one of the inexpensive, generic USB to MIDI adapters in that video. Unfortunately, those types of adapters have a very spotty track record as far as people having success with them in getting the update to go through. The big problem with them seems to be that they use the default Windows drivers, and those drivers simply don't have very tight specs when it comes to things like data transfer rates. This is why Line 6 recommends a higher quality adapter like the M-Audio Uno. It's more expensive, yes, but the success rate with those is near 100%.

I was looking around my local music stores and i only found these, ESI MIDIMATE II, MIDI cables available:

Do you think they will do the trick in updating the m13?

I just successfully updated my M13 after 2 days of frustration. I went from softwre 1.04 to 2.04.   Bit the bullet and purchased the MIO cable at Guitar Center.  The trick is I hooked the OUT MIDI cable (black) to the IN MIDI port on the M13. didn't use the second MIDI plug at all.  used MIOX for windows, followed the update instructions on this site and it worked!!!    what a pain to get it to the point where it would work though.  good luck.

I don't know... I've not seen that brand before. Personally, I would stick to someone like M-Audio or Roland just to be on the safe side.

Hi all,

I managed to update the M13! You were right Phil, once i bought the cable, it was a seamless process. I bought the cable which i posted in the link and it worked out as well!

To all those who are having issues updating the M13 and you're still using those cheapo cables that i was mentioned earlier in the thread, i am sorry to say that you have to spend a little bit of money and get yourself a proper cable in order to get your unit updated.

Thanks so much to everyone for your help! :)
