Ampifi Acoustic Tones

Is Line 6 supplying any information on the use of acoustic guitars through the amplifi amps and tones available?  Can't seem to find any information on the web or from dealers.

I'm unclear as to what you're wanting them to provide. There are three different amp models that are designed to work well with acoustic guitars in Amplifi - Tube Instrument Preamp, Line 6 Piezacoustic 2, and Line 6 Variax Acoustic. You could also do OK by selecting "no amp". It's a full range, full response amp, so it does work well with acoustics.

I doubt that my test would help much as I have pups, but I could try my Sheraton with the acoustic amp and see what it sounds like.. So far, I like the JC120 for cleans with "Sherry", baby!  I need to learn how to bypass my song filter. Everything in life seems to remind me of one song or another.

I probably should have tested this out a long time ago considering I own twice as many acoustics as I do electrics…but I just plugged in my Taylor T5 and had it out.  I played through the No Amp, Tube Instrument Preamp, Line 6 Piezacoustic 2, and Line 6 Variax Acoustic settings.  Not sure if the Variax one is made specifically for the Variax or not, but it doesn't hurt to try it.  In my opinion, the best sound with the T5 is the No Amp setting…just used the T5's tone controls…and a touch of reverb…sounded great.  I also tried a couple of my Tacomas….sounded good as well, but for some reason I think the T5 sounded better (and I am very partial to my Tacomas…nothing beats the sound of my Tacoma CM28C).  I'll still probably use my Roland BA-330 for my acoustic stuff.

Now, using the T5 for the electric sounds…well, I think we all know that the T5 will never replace a standard electric.  I can plug my Reverend, Tele, or Gretsch into the Amplifi and they all sound great no matter the setting.  The T5, on the other hand, took a lot of tweaking to get it to sound right.  Still serviceable, but just not quite there.

Just my 2 pennies.

Thanks for the rundown. Curious, I just patched my Gypsy Jazz guitar (with a German BigTone piezo PU) through the AMPLIFI 150 using the same tones you did.  I too found the No Amp the best choice, and in my case, seconded by Line 6 Piezacoustic 2. I found both tones pleasing to the ear. I'd probably use my AER acoustic amp at gigs (smaller, and has extra channel for vocals), but it's good to know the AMPLIFI 150 can hold it's own as a backup.  AE

Listening up close, I don't think the tweeters are doing anything with the direct guitar sound.

I'm only hearing the reverb and delay from them.

Seems a shame... this could be a nice acoustic guitar amp with a bit of restructuring.

I've not been able to create a great sound for a Godin nylon string.

Seems like it should be possible.

Yeah, per my understanding, when running into the guitar input, the guitar tone is only coming out of the main speaker and the tweeters are only used for the post effects.  I was pretty disppointed in this as well (I knew it was like this before I purchased the amp).  You can always go through the aux in...that should allow you to use all 5 speakers.  But then, you're relying on any external preamps or effects as this bypasses the internal modeling.

I wish Line 6 would give us the option to use all 5 speakers when/if we wanted...regardless of the effects.

I'm amazed at how little info there is for using the Amplifi system with an acoustic.  I'm considering the Amplifi FX 100.  Not really needing it to do much; just a little compression and reverb, but would love to have the other effects available if I need them.  I'm plugging straight into the PA.  I play acoustic rhythm with a church band that's mostly loud electric (Jesus Culture and Hillsong United style).  I have an iPad and iPhone, so I love the idea of using IOS for control.  I also really like that it's not dependent on the IOS device once you have it setup the way you want it.

I'm a little concerned that they're pitching this for home or rehearsal.  Hope it will be robust enough to hold to the rigors of stage use.  One way to find out.

All right I added an idea to the Line6 Ideascale. It is to include an FX or stomp the would allow us to send the guitar input to the full range with or without other FX or stomps.

Please vote on this.

"It would be great if we had a FX or Stomp that would allow the guitar input to go full range. As it is, the instrument is played through the 8" or 12" speaker and the FX are full range. It would be nice if we could choose the path. For acoustical instruments with little no effects. It could be as easy as a FX that you drop in that can adjust the amount or % of signal going to the mid's and tweet"s."

My question to everyone here is Are the acoustic settings as good on the Amplifi, as if you plugged a JT Variax (acoustic settings) into a PA? Is the Amplifi readily equipped with such settings??

I am using a Gibson J-45 through the Amplifi 150 and did some tone searches for various artists and acoustic guitar sounds to load into the 4 on-board A, B, C and D banks. It has taken some tweaking to get the volumes for each set so that switching between them worked correctly for me, but I think I ended up with four distinct and useable acoustic sounds loaded so I can do a live set without the need to bring my I-pad.

Did you upload the tones to the cloud?

I've never gotten a decent sound on acoustic with amplifi because you are only using the guitar speaker, not the high fidelity, as this us only used for effects. Here's my workaround. I use a preamp and an adapter to convert to mini, and plug into aux in. That's a pleasant sound, but all processing has to be done in preamp, mixer etc. I'm actually using a GP10 for preamp stuff, and have used acoustic and electric this way. Sounds great.

Hi all,

If indeed the aux-in provides enough sound quality after external sound processing without blowing up the tweeters, then a stomp as proposed would indeed do the job.

But aren't there already stomps in there that we could use in this role? E.g. the equalizer (especially when it is put after the amp just before the delay. and reverb) should be in the same path as the delay and reverb you have heard coming from the full range speakers? or maybe the delay or reverb with a somewhat onrothodox mixer setting?

As soon as my PRS SE Thinline ( B)) is back from the shop I will try to find out myself and report on this.

Cheers,

Chris
