Hd Volume Vs Master Volume

To clarify, and sorry if this has been hashed ad nauseam....

Volume knob - controls AMP VOLUME ONLY?

Master knob - controls everything thing running out of the HD?

The handbook/owners guide suggests set at line level, and run master at full (or nearly full)....does anyone do this?

If so, do you compensate with backing off levels in the mixer, or dialing down the Volume knob, or the amp volume setting?

Am i missing the boat on the master volume control here?  Seems, with master set to full, external speakers, particularly those with no volume control except for the HD would come apart, or take out the nearest window, or both ;)

Rarely, if ever, have i toggled with the on board volume controls... i set up my patch, save it, and that's that.

Volume = Patch Volume (use this to even out the volume between patches)

Master = HD Unit Output Volume. (I set this so the PA I'm plugging into doesn't clip. Also, I've read to run this at about 75% up. I run mine at 50%)

This is the Volume control for the amp you've selected, if you turn it up/down you affect the tone.

To even out the volume between patches use your mixer L&R volumes.

I run my pod into a 50W amp and I can't set the Master to full, it's too loud and I do notice the gain does increase as you increase from 0 to half way and I guess it's because it's pushing the tubes in my amp to react to it.

Are we talking "Master" volume control under "Amp Parameters" or "CH Vol"? It is my understanding that Channel volume adjust the output/volume of the the preset but does not affect tone. Master volume in Amp Parameters does affect tone as it is modeled after the master volume control of that particular amp model.

You got it.
